Guest guest
Hi , what's the difference between being a Vegetarian and being a Vegan? Please explain to us carnivores I've decided to go ahead with the hysterectomy as I can't find a better solution to my fibroid problem...which is sad but true. I went for another ultrasound this past Wednesday to look at the two cysts on my left ovary to check to see if they've gotten bigger (could be a sign of cancer.) I also scheduled an appt. to see my OB/GYN the only problem is that she is booked until Wednesday May 3! Now I will have to wait 3 more weeks to see her which really upsets me. She is going on vacation next week and the following week she has hospital duty... so 5/3 is the earliest I can get an appt. with her. Now that I've made up my mind that I want the surgery I want it done soon as possible! That way I have less time to think and worry about it. I also don't want to screw up my summer. I have tickets for Detroit Tiger baseball games in April, May and July and I wanted to go up North with friends in August.... I am just going to make up my mind that I WILL do that with or without my friends carrying me! That's it about me, thanks for asking. Now for you, please post a couple times a week so we know what you are up to! Take care, Jen Pink Pussycat <pinkpussycat@...> wrote: At least I've been in action! There are somethings that we can't avoid, but we do out best. And things have changed over the years where there are Vegan products available. This includes soaps, convenience foods, cosmetics, etc. And there are even " regular " foods that are what we call " Conveniently Vegan " . So we do not eat or use anything that is from an animal. So we do not consume: meat, dairy, eggs, honey (some Vegans use honey and it can be a source of argument among them), fur, leather, etc. Some Vegans use Omnisubs and others don't, it's up to each individual. We have to read labels to ensure the product does not have animal ingredients. Some are obvious and others are not, so we have to research. Some ingredients can be plant or animal derived so we either check with others or contact the company directly. There are also Raw Vegans and Fruitarians. Raw Vegans do not eat anything uncooked or for the rare cooked items it can not be heated above 120 degrees. There are also fruitarians who base their diet on ripe fruits from plants and trees. Guest guest
Wow! Thanks for this very interesting explanation. I love being educated about things I don't know a lot about and really appreciate your straightforward explanation. The few vegans I know personally get very emotional about it and tend to get on a soapbox when answering questions instead of just answering the question. I like being educated but do not appreciate preaching at the same time (and no , your answer was not preachy either and was also quite interesting)! Thanks! Guest guest
Yes it does....bees still die in the process. But irregardless, we believe that it's not ours to take. The bees produce honey for THEM not for US. So like any product of an aminal (whether the byproduct--i.e. milk or honey) or the animal itself we do not feel that it is our right to take/use from the animal. And I won't get into other AR issues here but those fall under the same guidelines. Guest guest
Wow. The 2nd article was so straightforward it was shocking (I'm from the suburbs though and not well acquainted with agricultural topics in the first place so it is easy to shock me). I skimmed through the first article and got the gist of the arguments against honey. Very interesting. I definitely never thought of bees as being hurt in anyway by the process of humans taking honey from the hives. I don't want to enter a still mostly uneducated opinion about the matter, just want to thank you for posting these. I've learned something new today and have more to think about! Re: LAURA Yes it does....bees still die in the process. But irregardless, we believe that it's not ours to take. The bees produce honey for THEM not for US. So like any product of an aminal (whether the byproduct--i.e. milk or honey) or the animal itself we do not feel that it is our right to take/use from the animal. Raw Vegans do not eat anything uncooked or for the rare cooked items it can not be heated above 120 degrees. There are also fruitarians who base their diet on ripe fruits from plants and trees. Guest guest
I found this link about honey bees. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/beekeeping/beespan.htm But whether you eat meat or fish or vegatables you are still taking something away from a living thing. That is really the cycle of life. I love animals but I still eat red meat (once in a while,) I eat chicken and fish more often because it's healthier. Just because I eat meat however doesn't mean that I want "any" animal to suffer whether they are used for science or raised on a farm. Just my opinion and I respect others beliefs.
