Guest guest
Unbelievable! I called Dr. Rice's office at the Cleveland Clinic and inquired about his willingness to do the heller myotomy with fundoplication on me. HE returned my phone call within two hours and spoke with me. Tentatively, Dr. Rice scheduled my surgery for May 10. Meanwhile, the surgeon who plans to operate on me in Boston hasn't returned my phone messages or email. His loss! Also, I started drinking soda again after reading all of your postings. It totally washes down my food! I have another general question about this condition. Can its severity fluctuate within one person? Last summer, I was regurgitating my food regularly, aspirating like crazy, waking up with food on my pillow, having spasms, etc. Currently, I have not regurgitated in a while, only aspirate when I go too quickly, don't wake up in the night with any problems, and occassionally have spasms that go away with nifedipine. Has A ever changed like this with no treatment whatsoever during the period of change for people? -Aileen
Guest guest
Aileen, Not sure if this will be useful info for you or not. My A gets worse when I don't take my reflux meds or when its time to switch them. Stress and hormonal changes makes it worse too. Also I know A seems to get " better " when the E stretches/distends because it finds a way to put all the stuff since it can't empty. I don't mean to scare you but I've read that here on the board and on the net when I'm doing searches for articles. For me, it also gets better when I have no sores in my E because of the acid. Then again it could just be your regular E having a good day versus bad day. Lisbeth Philly, PA
Guest guest
Hello Aileen I found that over the years things did fluctuate. Sometimes it was quite tolerable and other times just as bad as you described. For me some of the worst times were when I was on vacation and away from home. I think the stress of worrying about being in public if I needed to make a run for it made things worse. In my case though it was good or bad for shorter periods than you described. By that I mean it would get very bad for a week or so then ease some for a month or two then another really bad spell. Guest guest
- Hi Aileen, Yes it happened to me before surgery too. I was reminded by so many that even tho you are feeling better, remember it can still be regressing or stretching. -- In achalasia , " aileenmonroe " <axbarbet@...> wrote: > > Unbelievable!
