Several years ago when I had a endoscope exam my esophagus was so inflamed the my Dr. thought it was Barretts esophagus, after two biopsy's it turned out negative. He said that in my case and because I had this for some 44 years the constant reflux had severely damaged the lining of the esophagus. Since the scare with Barretts I have been on Prevacid and will be for the rest of my life. He said that should I go off this med. the remaining part of the esophagus would return to the inflamed state. As explained to me this medicine limits the amount of acid and helps to the esophagus more healthy
