Guest guest
Hello I have read a couple of your post & have some questions for you. We went to 's meeting back in April of this year. They gave me 2 options: one a itenerent group where he would have been the 8th or 9th child that met 2x a week for 30 minutes. The slp told me on a good day she might be able to spend 3 whole minutes w/ him. These were children who were all 4 & 5 who were conversing. At the time had maybe 8 words or less & had just had his 3rd birthday. She even came out & said, Oh he is still a baby ( he is very small for his age with the cherub baby face) Or secondly the preschool that was 5 full days a week where he would get group therapy 2x aweek for 20 minutes. This group would be smaller. But still no one on one that he so desperatly needs!! has terrible separation anxiety so I really did not think this would work just yet. Maybe at 4 years old. They rushed me since the woman before was a hour late, it was lunch time. I went ahead & signed the papers for the itenerent group ( as told by them just to keep my name at the top of the list, waiting list to get into this???) They led me to believe that they would follow up with letters in the mail, nothing. I still don't know where, when, why or how to this day. A friend works for the school system so she went into the computor to see for me, they never even entered him. Since then we have kept him in private therapy 2x a week for 30 minutes at our children's hospital. But not sure how much longer we can keep this up?? Where do I go from here? I left that day thinking I could never go throught that again, I am not a cry baby but boy did I cry that day! Since I signed the papers that I agreed to their plan which by the way was IN HIS BEST INTEREST, according to them. I don't know if I have a leg to stand on??? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, sorry this is so long... Tammy mom to 3 apraxia, 5, 16 & 20 Ps we live in FL, not a good IEP here!!! Guest guest
Your experience sounds similar to mine. I have just called another IEP meeting, and I'm going to ask for more services for my daughter. I didn't know my rights when I went to our first IEPs. I'm slowly becoming an expert. Anyway, if your child needs one on one therapy then the school has to give it to you. There is a wonderful group about IEPs: IEP_guide I recommend joining it and reading the messages. You'll get lots of good information. Good luck! Suzi > Hello > > I have read a couple of your post & have some questions for you. We went to 's meeting back in April of this year.
