Kathie, I can't really answer your question, but I think some have said they had a dilatation because the wrap was too tight. Sorry, I can't remember if you had a wrap or not. I am wondering also if it could be due to the barium. I hope you can find the answer sooner and I think I might call and ask. Maybe they'd have an answer for you. Guest guest
-- Help Please with question Hello All,I posted a question in no. 32170 and just wondered if anyone could answer it AND another problem.I wondered if the dilation I am having on Tuesday to break up Scar Tissue is different than the dilation used to break thru the LES? I would be VERY grateful if someone could answer that. I have been searching for info, but cannot really find the answer on my own.Second .....I have been having a problem of quite a bit of chest pain this week. It is different than the spasms and just wondered if I describe it, if someone can help me.I saw the surgeon last Tuesday and he has scheduled me for a dilation on Tuesday. Beginning on Wednesday, I noticed a dull but constant pain on the entire esophagus. It did not prevent eating, I had no reflux, it just ached! On Thursday morning I awoke with the the esophagus and my entire chest cavity very painful ... again, not like the spasms. It was just like everything contained between my ribs hurt, with most of it in my esophagus all the way up my chest and thru the back. This pain has stayed with me. It is very bad in the morning when I wake up, but lessens as the day wears on. I am constantly aware of having a chest and an esophagus. During the day it is not as painful, just achy!I did have a barium swallow and a barium pill on Tuesday. I washed it down with a ton of water. Could that have anything to do with it?Just wondered if I should call the surgeons office tomorrow morning and inquire? or just wait until I am at the hospital on Tuesday? I hate to be a whiner, but I must admit, I am wondering what is going on. While at the hospital I had the cardiogram and all the blood work, so I am positive it is NOT heart related. Please let me know what you think. I know this is very minor compared to what some of you have going on, but I would very much appreciate the input. Thanks,Kathie in Pittsburgh
Guest guest
Hi : Thanks for answering me. He definately told me he is doing it due to scar tissue. He is doing an EGD to see if anything has changed inside. The Barium Swallow told him that I definately have some thickening and he feels it is scar tissue. He said it could also be from reflux causing sores which keep healing ... to me that also sounds like another form of scar tissue or scabbing? He said when he sees what is going on, he will decide how he will do the dilation. I sorta thought everyone that went for a dilation AFTER the myotomy, had the dilation due to scar tissue. Maybe I was wrong. Guest guest
: I know ... it is SO confusing! Maggie: I had a Toupet Wrap ... which if I understand, is a partial wrap. He does not seem to think that is the problem at all. ... but we shall see. Dave: Hate to say that misery loves company ... B U T!!! The pain in the AM MAKES me get out of bed. after I am walking around a bit, it lessens, but does NOT go away all day! The reason I say it is NOT spasms is because my spasms come on suddenly like I am punched in the chest with a resulting charleyhorse of the esophagus, the pain goes thru the chest and up both shoulder blades and up both jaws. I do not have jaw pain with this at all. When the spasms finally go away, about an hour and a half, they go away. This has not gone away since Wednesday ... 5 days. I am just confused. Thanks to each of you for your input. Kathie the whiner, in Pittsburgh, that missed the snow!!! *********************************888 > > -- Help Please with question > > Hello All, > > I posted a question in no. 31270 and just wondered if anyone could answer it AND another problem. Guest guest
Dear Kathie, I wish you all the best tomorrow with your procedure. I'm sorry I have been out of the loop and not keeping up on all the posts...You are having a dilatation, correct? Is it a balloon or bougie? I had thought that my closure was due to scar tissue, but Dr. Ostroff said no, it wasn't. It was just the thickening of the esophagus which is the natural progression of the disease. He didn't believe that my wrap was too tight either as my surgery was successful for a good couple of years. The success we have after surgery is different for us all depending on the individual progression of our disease. I developed an esophageal ulcer after having my dilatation in August and am still being treated for it. I will find out next month how it is healing. Apparently what was happening after I had the dilatation was that when my esophagus would spasm, the acids were coming up eating through the LES. I was at great risk of perforating and am taking 3 different medications for this now. I hope I don't have to take it forever. The whole experience has scared me away from having any more balloon dilatations. I will be thinking of you and praying that your procedure goes well tomorrow and brings you long lasting success! Guest guest
Thanks Sandi: He seems to believe it is scar tissue, but I guess he can't be sure until he takes a peak. As far as I know it is a bugie. I will be glad when it is over. I truly appreciate your support. Sure hope you heal up soon. Guest guest
-Hello Kathie, I cannot give you an answer as to why but I can sympathise with you. I have the same ache. You can feel exactly where th E is all the way down. I have had a few different types of chest pains as well. Just can't know why either. I have had an awful one where the spasm went down as if a hand was clamping my stomach and bowel as well as going up. Not a pretty sight at all. Will be asking if the doctor can give any light next month. Anything I find out I will pass it on. -- In achalasia , " zekenoahme " <kgasior2@...> wrote: > > Hello All, > I posted a question in no. 32170 and just wondered if anyone could > answer it AND another problem. > I wondered if the dilation I am having on Tuesday to break up Scar > Tissue is different than the dilation used to break thru the LES?
