I just feel terrible that it is your son. I'm in Hanover, PA and I go a couple times/month to Lancaster Co. on business. I have never met anyone with Achalasia, even though I was diagnosed 2 years ago. Fortunately, I found this board! I had surgery done at Hershey Medical Center. While Dr. Richter is an excellent choice, from what I hear, you are closer to Hershey and you know they are great with kids, too. My surgeon is Dr. Randy Haluck. His email is rhaluck@.... He is very good about emailing back and you can tell him that Cindi Wilmot sent you! He would recommend Dr. Ouyang at Hershey as the best GI in the state for you to possibly visit with first to discuss options. I have never met her, b/c my GI here in Hanover already agreed with my decision for surgery. But I'd go to her in a heartbeat on Dr. Haluck's recommendation. If you need phone numbers, I'll find them, but you probably have them in your phone book there. I will email you my phone number off-board and please feel free to call. I have a 15 and 12 yr. old son and 4 daughters....I can only imagine how hard this is for a mom. Carolyn in CA will be a great "mom resource" for you as well.
