I saw that last night - interesting.

For those who didn't get a chance to catch it, here is what I recall

about it: a young woman (who happened to be a doctor I think) was

killed shortly after returning from Guatemala. The police thought she

had been acting as some kind of drug mule. When they saw her father

eating by taking very tiny pieces of bread (or some kind of food

anyway) and they asked him about it. He said he ate that way because

he had achalasia and could only eat very small bites. The cops had

heard a witness describe the same behavior from the woman. They asked

the dad if the daughter had the same thing.

He said yes she did, having come down with it and they thought that

stress had brought it on.

The medical examiner looked at the woman's esophagus and said she

never could have swallowed balloons of drugs with the achalasia.

It is really cool to hear about A on TV. I was a bit annoyed by a few

problems with the storyline, but whatever. First it is not generally

accepted that A is a hereditary ailment, so both the father and

daughter having it strikes me as off. And them saying they thought it

was caused by stress is weird. The symptom both the father and

daughter exhibited of being able to eat very small bites of food only

is possibly what some people experience, but not really what I

experienced. And how the medical examiner having not noticed the

patient's achalasia esophagus before it being mentioned is hard to

believe.

But overall it's good to have a mention in a primetime program!

I agree with your thoughts on it too. Adding to that... I think many of us would have been good drug mules before treatment. I think they would have gone done, and I could have regurged them at any time on command. I had the same thoughts about inheriting the disease as you. I disagreed with the bread thing... before treatment most wouldn't be trying to eat it. For me small bite size didn't really matter nor did chewing a lot necessarily help. I don't know about you all, but I'm off to the bad neighborhoods to hook up with someone that needs a mule. With proper experimentation of balloon size, I might find a second career. (It's a joke. Don't report me.)Also found it interesting the doctor that was highlighted had mg, as Kathie suspects she has. I agree, any mention of achalasia was interesting, no one will remember. Maybe we'll see it on Grey's Anatomy? If Dr. Welby was still around, we might show up there, he always found the weird diseases. Off to the bad neighborhoods... sadly, there are choices within 10 miles. Don't I look for the tennis shoe hanging over the phone lines? The kids' water balloons are in my purse. That is all I need isn't it?Sandy in So Cal> >> > Hi All,> > I am watching Law and Order on NBC ... it is 9PM Sunday Night.> > The girl that was killed and her father both have ACHALASIA.> > This is the first time I ever saw it referred to on TV.> > > > Don't know if anyone could get a copy of this episode.
