Guest guest
Aspiration - what a word. Experienced it badly for the first time Friday during an Epidural for back pain. I told them when they took me in that I had Achalasia, but they weren't concerned. Apparently I aspirated during surgey, and awoke in recovery coughing like crazy with an oxygen mask on. Three days now, and fighting to keep out of the hospital where they really want me to be, but temperature isn't too high,, and I think the antibiotics are working. For any of you that have a surgery and have to lie on your stomach, eight hours before for no food or fluids is not enough. I sure found out. Marilyn in L..A. Guest guest
Hi , I have used a wedge pillow for more years than I care to remember. It works for me but I don't have a water bed, so not sure how that would work. I use a regular soft pillow on top of the wedge pillow as well, I sleep on my stomach and side too. It took some getting use to but, as I said it works for me, the biggest problem is that if you are a restless sleeper as I am you have a tendency to slide down, so I find myself climbing back up a few times a night. I take it with me when I travel by car so I have available where every I stay. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Dear Marilyn, I just been throught the same thing as you. On July 18th I went to get a simple D & C, and aspirated before I could even have it. I was put in ICU for 3 days and have been out of work since. I can work, but I am so tired and crankly because of my diet being so poor. I am planning on going back to work on Wednesday. Apparently your case wasn't that bad... so consider yourself blessed. Aspiration is something that can kill you. I have had paitents (especially the ones who are feed via a peg tube) that have been hospitalized for months due to aspiration pneumia. I am now looking for a wedge pillow to sleep on. Hopefully it will help me not to cough so much when I sleep. I keep my poor husband up all night with my terrible cough. So if anyone in the group has a good one please tell me where it was bought. Sherryl > Aspiration - what a word. Experienced it badly for the first time Friday > during an Epidural for back pain. Guest guest
My God Marilyn -- I am so sorry -- make sure you get the medical attention you need to ward off pneumonia! Guess it is time to bite the bullet and head in for an evaluation of your achalasia, eh? Just being pushy in Sandy's absence. Let us know how you are progressing. Be well!
