Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I am successfully home recouperating from my mytomy, VATS style, and doing great. The first swallow of water after my barium swallow confirmed the surgery was successful -- what a feeling to finally feel water going directly to the stomach after so many years. Eating has been fine -- I have had to go very slowly -- yogurt, cream of wheat, juice, custard and soup so far -- mac and cheese was a little over the top for the first day, I fear, causing spasm. I am amazed at how quickly we heal. Sandy, Marilyn, and Eileen, thanks so much for your local support and good wishes. I was in mid spasm when Eileen called, sorry we couldn't chat. I am walking, eating little bits at a time, healing my lung, breathing deeply, exercising my shoulder (they go in under your left arm, leaving your shoulder a bit sore), showering, resting and now emailing! I agree that we should do a sitcom on Carole -- I could barely get down the hall and back the first few days. Four spasms so far, I am learning how to manage them. As for surgeon names -- mine is Dr. Fuller -- which now takes on new meaning -- Dr. Full-er -- to whom I feel very grateful for return of my swallowing function. Sandy has been great -- holding my hand through my first spasm as well as the spit up pan -- keeping track of me and supporting my hubby . was the BEST -- he was with me 24 hours sleeping on a 6 foot cot -- he is 6 foot 6 inches tall -- my experience in the hospital was much more positive as a result. I knew I picked a good one (Sandy is right -- he is cute too, sorry to the guys). He slept like the dead last night in his own bed, poor sweetie! More later -- thanks for all your good wishes and support. It means a lot to know others are thinking of and praying for my health. Isn't is great for everyone to hear so many positive stories. God knows, we need them. Hope it all continues so well for you. I must admit, when I heard Mac and Cheese, I FREAKED! Guest guest
Welcome home Peggy!! As someone told me (think it was Sandy) – Welcome to the other side!!! J I hope that this surgery gives you all the relief and more that you have been waiting for all this time. Your spasms will subside with time. They suck for now, but they will get better. Take deep breaths through them, it helps me. Give your hubby a hug from me for taking such good care of you. What a great man you have in your life. Keep us updated on how you’re feeling Peggy!
