Guest guest
Hi! I'll be seeing Dr. Prindiville, with UCD. My GP said he's the Director of Sacramento's GI department. I was seeing Doctor Terrado. I was unhappy with her for a number of reasons, and apparently she's still following me which is a bit weird in my opinion. My story, well it involves more than just Achalasia, and we're coming to beleive I may have secondary Achalasia. In 2003 I discussed my GI symptoms w/ my GP, who mis-diagnosed me w/ GERD, which as we know is very common. She gave me some medication. Lol, the foaming kind, so I was regurgitating foam, not fun. I stopped taking that pretty quickly & didn't go back about the problem, just lived with it. In June 2004 I had a Kidney Stone, while discussing this w/ my GP I brought up that the medicine hadn't worked and my GI symptoms were getting really bad at this piont. Regergitation every day, some days so bad I knew I wasn't getting any food. I was also losing weight. She still thought it was GERD, sent me for a Barium swallow. Well, I couldn't get the gas pellets down. After about 20 minutes of this torture the young Doctors that were in there called in a Radiology expert who almost immediatly diagnosed me w/ Achalasia. I was mildy familar w/ it from doing my own research. I saw my GI Dr. Terrado, had a manometry & scheduled a Dilitation. I had a lung collapse before the Dilitation & we had to put it off. By this point I was down to 106Lb at about 5 " 4', pretty sickly. Finally was cleared & had the Dilitation which worked GREAT... for about a week & then declined from there. I would say it was about 70% effective for a few months and I think I'm declining again. I had a CT scan for the collapsed lung in November to see why it happened. My pulmonologist told me my lungs looked perfectly healthy and I was fine. January, I had another lung collapse. February another... same one each time. My pulmonologist has scheduled me for a better CT. I went in for a general exam w/ my NEW & Fabulous GP who I love & she's freaking out all over the place. Apparently my pulmonologist negelected to tell me back in November that I had aspiration pneumonia in the 'good' lung from the Achalasia, and another kidney stone. I now am being scheduled for an emergency consultation with my new GI, Dr. Prindiville to discusse surgery. Or at least my old GI & my new GP want me to discuss that with him, we'll see what he has to say. Also, I found out yesterday that I have a positive (w/ a high count) ANA, which means I possibly have an autoimmune disorder that is causing the lung collapses & the Achalasia. The Achalasia is aggrivating the lung collapse (it's my left lung) because I use my lung to regurgitat, I have no peristalsis. AND my kidney stones are caused by the poor diet that Achalasia affords me. I am low on Folic Acid (which can be fixed w/ orange juice apparently.) Lol, I tried to make that as short as possible, but it's a total mess. I'm not choking in my sleep like I was before the Dilitation so I think the Doctor's are freaking out about nothing. They tell me I'm a severe case. I never thought so compared to so many people on here so I'm not sure what to beleive. I figured I was mid-range. I want to see this newest CT scan, I'll bet the pneumonia is gone. Man have I had a BAD night too. I've been sick as a dog. I finally got about a cup of sour cream to stay down, heh. You have a child w/ Achalasia, no? It's such a stupid thing to have so young. I know I'll need surgery some day but all I can think is that the sooner I have it, the sooner I'll need it again and the sooner I'll be looking at an esophagectomy. But I could be wrong about that. I just hate doing something so drastic to my body so early in life. I'm 22 btw. So pleased to meet you, fellow Californian > > > I know I haven't been around much. Guest guest
Caroyln, I just wanted to urge you to take Cameron to see Dr Patti at UCSF! Its worth the drive to see those doctors with experience – they will be wonderful to Cameron I am sure! I live in Santa Cruz so it was about an hour and a half each way – but well worth it! Good luck. Jess, you have been through so much….a second opinion sounds like a good idea. I can only give you my thumbs up at the doctors at UCSF (Dr Patti and Dr Way). Good luck! So currently we are over at Sutter but thinking we are gonna move on to UCSF. I know it is a drive, but my kid is worth seeing the best... he has a long life ahead... Guest guest
Thank you ! Glad to know you found a good doctor reasonably locally. Carolyn, I like Sutter. I always go to their Roseville Er when I have an emergency, which seems to be very often lately. They're quick & thorough & have good nurses, even if the doctors are a bit rude. I don't have any experience w/ their specialists however, so I can't comment much, but I like the group. As far as 's suggestion. I've heard Dr. Patti's name bantered about and that sounds like a pretty good plan. As for me, I'm going to give Prindiville a chance. I'm finally sorting out a good table of doctors and I don't want to disturb that balance by switching groups. My GP is too important to me now. I just hope he's nice, I cry SO easily when I'm in the office, it's pitiful. I purge before bed if I feel pressure or am uncomfortable. Due to my lung condition I try not to if it's not necessary and I could induce a collapsed lung. Makes you feel a bit bulemic since you're doing it on purpose, but man do you sleep so much better and wake up better, and you're sick in the morning less often. I agree with your method with your son. Sounds like you've already moved on from UCD but was recommended to me by this board here, I'm afraid I can't remember who specifically gave me the name, but he's my second choice GI if Dr. Prindiville won't see me. > > > > > > I know I haven't been around much.
