Guest guest
Hi Mike in TX, (You’re the 4th Mike I can think of in the family) Welcome to the group. I’m glad to hear that you also find relief from this group. It is a wonderful place!! I’m happy to hear that you don’t have A, but not that you have schatzki’s ring. Hm….another thing I have never heard of. I hope that your gastro has experience. If not, you know what to do, since you’ve been a member of this family for a while already! J Keep looking for a doc with experience!! Thanks for letting others know NOT to wait. This is not something that will just go away with time, and the faster things get diagnosed/treated, the sooner they will feel relief!! Take care, in BC Schatzki's ring This is my first time to post but felt I must. I have suffered from achalasia like symptoms for the previous 7 years. During this time Ihave found much comfort reading this forum knowing that I am not alone. Like many of you, I have had terrible anxiety eating in a restaurant knowing of the possibility of regurging my food in front of friends or family. The thought of eating a steak or hamburger strike fear if you know what I mean. I finally decided to visit a Gastro doc to get some baseline info and did the barium swallow yesterday. I showed that achalasia wasn't present but a schatzki's ring. From what I saw and was told, it is like a rubberband squeezing the esophagus just above the LES. When the esophagus contracts pushing food down, so does the ring stopping and backing up the food as it goes down. The treatment will be similar to a balloon dilatation with questionable long term results just like achalasia dilatations. I wanted to saw how much it means to know others are out there. I also want to say to those out there just like me who just wait and wait and wait to get the medical attention they need to GO DO IT. Don't wait any longer.
