Being able to bring up food collected in your E is quite OK and good if you can as it will stop the food from distending your E and also forming acid over time. As Maggie says some advise that you should empty your oesophagus at night to prevent food from coming up and getting into your lungs at night. I would prefer that to taking the stuff to break up the bolus. You could also try to make your evening meal a liquid one - some nourishing liquidised soup that is not likely to stick and more likely to go straight down. You can make this from any food that the family are eating - just liquidise it and add enough water to make it smooth and liquid.
