acid reflux after surgery

i had my heller mytony in july and though i can now eat and drink

little and often and take regular indigestion medication i still get

bad acid reflux every 4 or 5 days any ideas?

Hi Barbara,

When they did your Heller, did they do a fundoplication or wrap ? If they

did you should not be getting so much acid.reflux.

You should ask for medication to reduce the acid produced in the stomach -

something like Nexium or Losec or one of those. The other reason for acid

can be acid that is produced in your oesophagus, especially if it is a bit

dilated. This happens when food trapped there starts to ferment and change

(I hate using the word 'Rot'!) This acid is not quite as strong as stomach

acid but can still cause pain and, especially when you lie down, it comes

back up and burns the top half of your E. For this kind of acid there is no

one remedy, but Tums help some and water others, or even a neutral food like

Oatmeal porridge.

hi joan

thank you for reply ,what is the differance between a fundoplication

or wrap ?i alredy take nexium though the best of them does not do a

lot for me with the acid.
