Guest guest
My husband has had achalasia for 30+ years and his GI doc seems to be running out of options. We feel that we might need another opinion and are not sure how to find someone that knows a lot about this disease. My husband has had 27 dilations and 2 Heller myotomies. We want to know about botox injections, or even having another surgery if it will help. Know any GI docs in the Fort Worth/Dallas area? Guest guest
Hi! Wow, your husband has been through a lot. A doctor with experienve is crucial to achalasia. I sure hope that your current GI knew what he was doing!! J Has his doc talked with you both about an esophogectomy? Or a partial? I don’t know much about your story, but it sounds like he has tried lots of things, with no luck. Some people have to resort to this, and have a great life after. It is probably something to look into. To look for info on docs in your area, first try a google search. There is a decent amount of info on there, if you know what to look for. Otherwise, try www.ctsnet.org It is time consuming to look for someone in your area, but probably worth it. When you find a doc in your area, check their list of interests, looking for esophogeal things, or anything related. If you find one with it, send him/her a very brief email asking if he has lots of experience with A. If he doesn’t, can he reccommed someone in the area who does? Many are quick to recommend a good colleague. (That is the experience I had looking for Vancouver, and Toronto). You probably could email any type of thoracic doc on the site from your area, and they would reccomment you someone. Good luck! Oh, and what is your name? Guest guest
Hi I am in the DFW area and I saw Dr Vanderpool. LOVED him. He is a surgeon with Baylor in Dallas. Dr Schiller was the GI, he is supposed to be the best in the area, next to Houston, in a. They both practice out of Big Baylor in Downtown Dallas. Be ready to make many phone calls to Dr Schiller, his office staff is HORRIBLE about returning calls. There numbers are DR Schiller 214-820-2671 Dr Vanderpool 214-823-2650 Good luck! Guest guest
Hello,I guess paige beat me to this one, but Baylor would be your best bet. I got good care there when I lived in Dallas.I can't remember who the doc was, but I would ask for the Chief of Gastro. Dept. In your husbands case I would not mess around. Because of your husbands previous problems, he will probably end up with the chief anyway.I can identify with your husband. I have had 3 surgeries, but no dilations as they will not help me at this point.JC> Would like a GI doc referral for Fort Worth,Texas> area>> >>> My husband has had achalasia for 30+ years and his GI doc seems tobe> running out of options. Guest guest
Thanks so much JC. We will be looking in to it soon. I just can't imagine what it would be like for my husband to eat like everyone else. He probably never will but any relief from the food hanging would be great. Guest guest
Hi Paige, Thanks for the referral. We are definitely going to look in to it. It really helps getting advice from other A sufferers. Before I was looking in our ins book at all the docs wondering which ones really knew about A. Apparently the one my husband's had really is clueless, so we are so glad to have found this A group on and you too! Thanks again, Shea > > Hi! > > > > > > > > Wow, your husband has been through a lot. A doctor with > experienve is > > crucial to achalasia. Guest guest
Hi I used Dr. Westerland who is in the same practice as Vanderpool, both are excellent. They do surgery out of Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. Good luck, Annmmlwd <mmlwd@...> wrote: Hi Paige,Thanks for the referral. We are definitely going to look in to it.
