Guest guest
Hi am female almost 30 have 3 children and am from Australia. As mentioned in an earlier post I have just been diagnosed with achalasia. I started experiencing symptons about 2 or more years ago. It first started with extreme pain across my back and could not figure out what it was, the doctor thought it may have been gallstones. As time went on I started to experience what I thought was heartburn which went from bad to worse. I became pregnant with my 3rd child last August and decided not to investigate my problems any further until I had the baby. It was quite difficult as I regularly had chest pain which felt as if my chest was going to explode (I now know that these were spasms). During this time I started to develop gurgling in my throat especially at night. This was all very unusal. As soon as my baby was born the back pain disappeared but the swallowing became increasingly difficult. I now have difficulty with every meal and every drink. I presented myself to my doctor about three months ago. My gastroenterologist was right onto it and sent me for a gastroscopy, manommetry and barium x-ray. I am now waiting to see him so that he can give me a referral to a surgeon. Here in Australia we are put on a waiting list for surgery under one of 3 categories - Urgent, Semi urgent within 3 months or not urgent and that could be 6 months. Can anybody tell me how long you waited for surgery from the time that you were diagnosed and decided to go ahead with a surgical procedure. I am just curious, I believe that different countries must have different procedures, is this true?
