Guest guest
So I've finally come the realization that I need to change my GP and my GI. I was able to get info from another GI in the city of our area's leading Achalasia GI. I decided to call his office for a recommendation on a GP who might have familiarity with Achalasia. When I left a message, the receptionist is the same as the one for my old GI! They're in the same clinic! Now, I have somewhat spurned my old GI, hopefully not too severly (I'll pop that story at the end) and I don't know if this receptionist is taking me seriously or maybe the doctor isn't responding on purpose but no one ever called me back. Any advice on if you think I should still persue this GI w/ specialty in Achalasia? The whole reason I want a new GI is that I want someone who actually knows about the condition. To top that off, I got a recommendation for a GP from a co-worker. This GP has 2 offices, one of them is the same as my old GP. Is this a crazy coincidence or what? So, also, the story of my old GI. This lady says one dilation and then we'll consider surgery. I saw her ONCE before the dilation (the day she did the consultation and said we'd do the proceedure). I never got to ask her any other questions. So I'm trying to ask them as they are shoving the paperwork under my nose, I'm strapped in and everything. I got out of her during this that she expects to do at least 2 dilations because they build on each other to stretch out the esophegus.... never heard this anywhere else (validity anyone??). AND she never came to see me after the proceedure, no one told my driver how to take care of me and she didn't do any biopsies. I'm pretty freaking pissed at this point, and a week after the dilation my symptoms begin returning. I'm about 70-80% as bad as I was pre-proceedure, about 2 months later. I'm furious and was not told what to do or when I'd ever get a follow up. I called her office to see if she had scheduled one and neglected to tell me. She didn't. Talked to my allergist (btw, apparently I'm allergic to peanuts and never knew) and it came out how upset I was and that my symptoms had returned. She put a note in my file I guess and 2 days later the GI office calls to schedule a follow up. I left a message that I wasn't interested and I'd call them if I was. (persistent bastards wouldn't take silence for an answer and were leaving like 2 messages a day). I'm sorry to say I don't want to even talk to this GI again, and now come to find that our area Achalasia specialist might be a close coleague. Guest guest
Jess, There was a young woman who used to post in the group who was in Sacramento. The GI doc she saw was a Dr. Jaun in Sacramento and he had a lot of experience with achalasia. Have you heard of him? I think I might have some contact information for him if you'd like I can look for it. Sandi in No CA Advice apreciated So I've finally come the realization that I need to change my GP and my GI. Guest guest
Identify a research hospital in you area or ask the board for a medical center that specializes in swallowing disorders. Look at the staffing at Cleveland Med and you will see some ten times more people in this field. Advice apreciated So I've finally come the realization that I need to change my GP and my GI. Guest guest
Hi Jade! I don’t think I have seen you on here for a while…. It is good to see you posting. In my opinion, I would totally pursue the new GI with the achalasia experience. It will make a whole lot of differernce once you get there. To have a doctor with experience is important!!! Same with your GP. If you are not comfortable with him/her, or whatever reason, do change. They have soooo many patients, I wouldn’t worry about being seen again, while visiting your new GP. I hope things pick up for you soon. Don’t give up… keep up pursuing that new GI! Take Care Jade!! Advice apreciated So I've finally come the realization that I need to change my GP and my GI.
