Stomach Size Post-Op

After reading s post it dawned on me that one thing I neglected

to comment on in my 2-week Post-Op report was that my stomach size

seems to be VERY SMALL! I get full very easily and it is downright

painful if I accidentally overeat! I actually have to stop eating

before I think I should....because then it seems to be just about

right. Hey! Maybe it's the difference between filling up my

esophagus and actually getting food to my stomoch - yeah!

In any case...Does the stomoch really get smaller - or does it just

feel smaller?

I think it's probably a combination of the fact that the stomach shrinks down if it doesn't get much food at any one time, plus the fact that they make the "wrap" (fundoplication) by taking the upper part of the stomach and pulling it over to the other side, so the empty/available stomach space left over is less than what was there before.

Most people mention that they can't eat much at all right after having a wrap.

Some people will have a smaller stomach because it has been a long time in

which they could not get very much in it at once, so it shrunk over time.

Even without that, the stomach will be smaller if you have a wrap. This is

because the wrap is made by wrapping part of the stomach around the

esophagus. The part used in the wrap will no longer hold anything. A full

wrap will make the stomach smaller than a partial wrap.

Think of your stomach being like a balloon. Take the balloon and wrap the

end around your finger then try to blow it up.
