Yes I had mine done afterward b/c they had removed a portion of my e...and redone a wrap. So they had to make sure that it wasn't to loose or to tight...so I had the manometry done first then the PH. My surgery was in Sept. 2002, in April 2003 I went back in for another dialation which has lasted me until now....I'm only having issues with bread and the such. But I've been really stressed so I know thats not helping.

I know every case is different, but with yours, but since I also had surgery which removed part of my esophagus, I have had some problems with reflux, even though I am taking prevacid. Granted, I had had a little coffee with caffine, and a little bit of wine, but the heartburn was something terrible. Are you taking any PPI medications?

O.K. then here is another really dumb sounding question. But, if I am still on a restricted soft foods diet at the date of my Post-Op return for the PH test....then will the results really be that accurate, since shortly there after I assume I will be starting to add more normal foods back into my diet regime that may be influencing factors in the PH of my E. The foods I am allowed now basically are meant to keep acids LOW. Just curious.Joy

Joy,

I think this is a Good question. Just let me know what you find out!

, I know your surgery was more complicated than mine and you probably required different tests...but I assume he had you go back for an 8-week Post-Op check, right? Is that when you had your 24hr PH test done? I have been re-reading lot's of posts...and most people seem to have that test done PRIOR to surgery to rule out GERD.Joy

The only dumb question is one not asked!!!!

I was told to take it easy with foods the first few weeks and to gradually add things back to my diet...to try it and see how it goes...if not well wait another few days and try again. So that when i went back i could say wether i was having trouble with any foods at that point. You can do more solid foods with out producing more acid...just stay way from those foods...but when they do your pH test they want to know if you can handle those foods or not...if not then you just know your restricted from then on, or that the wrap could be to loose in order to keep the acid down or that you need to be put on an acid reducing med. Even though my pH came out pretty normal they still wanted me to take Nexium, so that there would be no more damage done to my e from any that may come up.

Joy, another thing to think about is that your stomach is creating acid whether you eat acidic foods or not. If you're getting any acid refluxing into your esophagus, it will show on the 24-hour PH (the monitor looks for the acid level in your esophagus.... how much is coming up through your now-cut LES).

Techno, Pepto, Tripper Debbi
