Thanks. Have you ever had the pneumatic dilation? If so, what can I

expect. Incidentally, the 24 hour test is much more pleasant with a

bravo capsule. The capsule is attached to the esophagus and

communicates to the box they give you. Eventually, it detaches and

comes out naturally.

Hi gary,

I had a dilation 22 years ago...when I was 19, in college in Utah.

I am sure things must be quite different now....so don't take my

words for anything. But I recall the Dr. gave me valium, placed a

balloon and blew it up....it hurt like a heart attack for a very

short while and then thank GOD it was over! Sore with mild spasms

for a couple days and then followed by reflux for 10 years. I became

ONE with antacids until the sphinctor tightened again.....and those

were the good years. All in all though, as a kid like that, I was so

busy and involved in so many things, I hardly stopped to take notice

of the symptoms. Like I said, I am sure things have improved.

It sounds to me like TCC does it with a tube and NOT a capsule,

unfortunately.

A dilatation today is very civilised. They use deep sedation - you are completely out - quite unaware of what is going on and you don't feel a thing. When you wake up your throat may be a bit sore but that is all and you will probably have to go and have a Barium swallow or some other which will tell them if you have perforated or not. I was just terribly cold and shivered awfully for a while. But other than that I was home that afternoon.

Hi ,

Yes, I want to second Joans' comments. I am to understand from

everything I have read that it is all quite different and more

pleasant now. Also, from re-reading my posts to you...you asked

where my " operation " was and I assumed you meant the Heller I had 13

days ago....but now it appears you were referring to the dilitation.

I apologize as I cannot remember where exactly, Provo, Utah 2 decades

ago.
