I do this -- my nifedipine is a "gel cap" with liquid inside -- are you using that or an actual "tablet" (compressed powder) form?I just prick the capsule and squirt it under my tongue and throw the capsule away, and I've never had a problem with ulcers under my tongue. Have you tried switching brands of medicine, either generic to name-brand or vice versa?

Also, there are other ways to prevent/stop the chest pains -- check out this post from Friday that lists some of the things we've learned in this group:achalasia/message/19265

Hope this helps!Pepto-Deb in Michigan

Does anyone take Nifedipine under their tongue and open the pill up? I get olser in my mouth everytime I have to take that medicine for the spasms. Please let me know. The medicine says it should not be open up, but my dr wants me to take it that way., since I can't take pills.

---I bite the tip, place the med under the tongue or on the cheek

(buccal) and keep the remainder of the capsule in my mouth until it

is gone. I don't throw the capsule away because it

basically " melts " . I have not had problems with ulcers. Try the

cheek method.
