Hi everyone!,

I too, have been hoping that Deb from Mich. would be posting soon. She was instrumental in my going to the Cleveland Clinic to seek out a diagnosis for my problems of dysphasia, which mostly stemmed from two botched fundoplication surgeries in Feb and then May of 2003.

I found this group by mere accident, because I was looking for some cause for my continued dysphasia. I didn't really think I had A, but was almost hoping I did, because the treatments sounded so easy and the people who had the surgery sounded like they were able to go on with their lives, able to swallow pretty much anything they wanted.

I wish to God I had found this group before I had my 2nd botched surgery, but I can't go back in time now.

This past June(?), I had some thoughts about going to the CC to see a GI there. All other GI's where I live told me to live with my inability to swallow anything else but soup and liquids, and chocolate. I thought, "I can't spend the rest of my life eating soup and liquids only!"

So I voiced my frustrations and worries aloud to this group, and Debbie (pepto DEB)!

harassed me into making appts at CC. I went, I met the great Dr. Rice, and he persuaded me that it was my lousy fundoplication surgeries that left me messed up for life. He looked me in the eye and said he really thought he could help me. I had surgery on Aug the 5, and am home recovering still. He had to take part of my esophagus, and later that night, my spleen, as it was bleeding from the earlier surgery, unknown.

Today I returned from a trip to CC where Dr. Rice gave me thumbs up on a good recovery. He did an endoscope and said the surgery is really healing well. Well, enough that I can start the two week process to taper my tube feedings and eat and drink real food again!!!!

Yea!

I'll be so happy to get rid of this darn feeding tube. I hate it.

But, I am thinking that I should probably resign from this group now.

You guys have been the most supportive people on the planet!

I wish Deb were here to say good-bye to, but I can also be reached at my email address at: JMB000001@...

I'll stick around for a couple more days before leaving the group, but just again let me thank those of you who know me for supporting me, and offering great advice about the quality of care at TCC, and recommendations about DR. RICE.

I pray for each and every one here, that you will have supportive family and friends, the care and treatment of excellent and experienced doctors, and procedures that gently tell the diagnosis in a timely manner.

Most of all, I wish you all peace.

Hugs to all,

Jan from Northern Kentucky

Dear Jan,

I hope you don't think you have to leave the group. You said you

thought you " should " . I, for one would love you to stay. Groups

like this often lose members when they are in recovery, that leaves

(excuse me for this gross elaboration, take it please with the humor

intended) the group with mostly whiners and complainers. We need

stable, grounded successful people who have faced the doctors and

lived through it. Otherwise new members think any treatment is

hopeless because it could be only the drastic cases that remain in

this group for comfort (and whining and complaining :-))

If you don't have the time to check in often, that is fine, but don't

leave the group. Maybe the emails are bugging you.... I don't get

the individual ones, just go to the website when I'm in the mood.

Maybe that is what you meant. Don't leave us now, when we need

success stories. We are left with Mike types (WHERE is he?) who need

prodded. Maybe we prodded too much?

So please stay if you like, there are always new members and they

can't take the time to read through the old messages. If you want to

desert us, then that is okay too.
