They're waiting on my insurance to authorize the test at an out-of-network facility that's used to administering them. OK well I just had to share :-) Hope you're all doing good. I haven't been able to read anyone elses posts today since I left work to do the test. I'll try to catch up tonight! , I'm glad that the Barium swallow wasn't too bad. The 24 hr ph test will be different, I hate to tell you. I'm sorry to be negative, but, it's better knowing in advance, I think. I had the test twice, and Don't ever hope to have it again. When you do have it, remember that when you feel like gagging, just try to breath some shallow breaths, sometimes it helps with the gag reflex. Guest guest
Hey everyone! Thanks for all the great information over the past couple days. I did my Barium Swallow this morning and I think I pretty much freaked the radiologist and his tech out. He said he had never seen anything like it... especially in someone my age (28). There wasn't even a bird's beak where it was getting through. It just pinched off down at the bottom and that was it. He said it started out OK but then my LES spasmed and closed up and that was it. He had me drink until my whole esophagus was full up to my neck and then kept the machine of for a while longer to see what would happen. He laid me on my back (he was worried that would make me throw the barium back up but it didn't) and took more pictures and finally turned the machine off but it had still not drained into my stomach. The tech was talking to one of the other techs and she was like " ...oh that poor you man... did you see these (picutres?)... just horrible... " . Anyway, the test wasn't that bad and I didn't throw up so I'm happy. I got confirmation that I will be doing the 24-hour version of the tube-up-the-nose test (whatever it's called). But have still not been scheduled. They're waiting on my insurance to authorize the test at an out-of-network facility that's used to administering them. Guest guest
- bummer. But I'm glad you have confirmation. Your tech probably never saw A before. I have a funny story to tell you. I was doing some business in another town with a woman I have dealt with quite a bit, so I know her. She is an x-ray tech. right after my B.Swallow I asked her if she ever saw a case of A. She said, "No! But I'd love too, that would be so cool! Who do you know that has it?" When I told her ME, she said that she wanted me to see if she could do my next swallow! lol! So just think, you gave those medical people a once-in-a-lifetime experience today! lol! Hang in there -Cindi ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here
Guest guest
I still remember my 24 hour ph test. I told my family and friends that I was not going to be talking for 24 hours. It hurt to talk. I swallowed gently, and I survived. As long as I didn't talk, swallowed gently, drank liquids, and stayed BUSY, it wasn't too horrible. I took some excedrin pm before bedtime and think I actually went to bed early. Rent some good movies, read a good book, work on a crafty project, or whatever keeps your mind occupied. Just plan on keeping yourself distracted during your daylight hours and you'll get through it. Just pretend you are going to have an out of the body experience for 24 hours. Pretend you're looking at your experience rather than living it, haha. That helped me. Best of luck. > > In a message dated 7/21/2004 4:22:14 PM Eastern Daylight Time, > p.jefferies@c... writes: > > Anyway, the test wasn't that bad and I didn't throw up so I'm > happy.
