Chaitanya --

I hope that the ortho specialist can help you with your back problems -- please keep us posted!

One thing you might want to follow up on is your entire endocrine system. I've *finally* been diagnosed as having some endocrine problems, and I believe that the majority of them were caused in no small part by the stress on my body during my years of eating nothing due to achalasia.

You mentioned your slowed metabolism earlier this morning, which made me wonder if you had a doctor who is knowledgeable in the endocrine system's ups and downs (I've found that even endocrinologists aren't very knowledgeable in much of this stuff!) If they haven't done them yet, I would certainly ask for a COMPLETE endocrine workup, including full thyroid (not just TSH, but the whole nine yards!), adrenal, and parathyroid numbers.

I'm just blown away by a large study that showed that 10% of the US population has an untreated or undertreated thyroid problem (and that's *just* thyroid, not including adrenal and parathyroid!) -- where on earth are the so-called "medical professionals" who are supposed to put 2 + 2 together and come up with 4, but instead seem to end up with 3 or 5 as their answer instead????

Anyway, just wanted to mention it, in case your doctors didn't even bother to look; hormone problems like this can have long-term health consequences if not properly treated (osteoporosis, heart disease, etc.), and they are *so* easy to detect!

Debbi in Michigan, also glad to see Chaitanya posting here again!

Thanks for the kind words - glad to be back

Yes, I have been following your Thyroid reports with interest.

Most problably the thyroid is low. Wouldn't be surprised.

Have it next on my list of things to do for my health. Will schedule

a complete physical to celebrate my 50th year. At that time will ask

for a complete workup (thyroid included)

Am hitting 50 this year so am getting things done now so I can take

care of myself.

Since the thyroid is also in the neck, that would make Achalasia

even more of a pain in the neck if it has triggered thyroid

problems!!???!!! ;0)

Thanks again

Chaitanya.... for those with constipation as a result of low thyroid as a result of malnutrition as a result of achalasia, would that not also make achalasia a pain in the arse??? ;o)

LOL -- nice that we can have a sense of humor, b/c if you can't laugh then you end up crying instead, and laughing is so much better!Deb, hoping that you get answers on all fronts ASAP!
