achalasia/database?

method=addRecord & tbl=11

This is the link to the database add record. Or click on Database on

the group home page and go to the last one. Email if you are

confused.

Out of curiosity I checked on what was happening with a rare disease

my father had. I found their group and it was set up as a file with

each member reviewing their history, then dating it and coming back

with updates. It is an arterial venus disease, often causing death,

disability or severe complications. Just for a reality check, many

were children or young adults. Some of the stories had many

chronological updates then the last entry was sometimes the passing.

When just asked for help, I couldn't remember her history

well, although I remembered her as active in the group when I first

joined in 2001.

I set this up as a database, although the " files " category seemed

more logical. Some people may not be able to read the different

types of files.

If anyone has a better suggestion as to where to put this let me know

and I'll change it.

My vision, of course subject to what everyone thinks would be

helpful, is a title, that suggests what was different/unique about

your situation ( Fitzgerald comes to mind as he is so patient

about his situation).

I thought if the list got too big a new member could read through the

titles and read only the ones that interest them.... such as a

foreign country or whatever.

Of course the " normal " stories are helpful.

When I first joined this group it was possible to read almost all the

old posts. I think it would be terribly time consuming now. If

someone is looking for A w/ pregnancy or what happens in Taiwan for

example, it would make it easier.

Reading about the symptoms, where we went for treatment, the good,

bad and evil and the results might be more informative and easier for

new members or even old ones who are facing a decision.

I am hesitant about this database format.... I'll try to find where

that group was, as it easily lent itself to updates and easy reading.

I've started mine, but will come back to finish later.

Let me know what you think.

Sandy

I just added a very brief history. The column is so narrow, it takes up a lot of room though. Just a word of caution for anyone adding their personal story.

(Let's not let Debbie anywhere near this :-) There won't be any room! lol. Sorry Debbie . . . I had to!

Dear Joan,

I understand your frustration!!!! I'm guessing, maybe you still

needed to sign in once you got to the home page. You

still have to sign on to the individual group I think.

There is little, button to click that says sign in????

I always go to the website to read the messages as it is easier than

getting emails or waiting for the digest. Then the menu is always on

the side.

As for the website database being small for the story part, I worried

about that, it isn't a good setup because the database is limited to

one line. A file might work better, but we would all be using

different programs, as I understand the files link. I'm not great at

this design stuff so any help would be appreciated. I likely clicked

so anyone can modify the design.

I had made a database a long time ago that is just your name etc. and

you put in the message number of your original story and any

followups. That didn't ever catch on either.

> Sorry Sandy - just had the same aggravation from the link you

provided - and it tells me I am not a member of this group ! Oh well -
