Cleveland by BUS!

Yikes! Just got my Fed Ex package yesterday and they scheduled me

for a test next Thursday too! My husband can't get off work on

Thursday. (Try to follow me here) He will go to Cleveland directly

after work Thur. and meet me, be with me Fri. for all my tests and

meeting the Doctors and drive home with me.

If I take a bus by myself to Cleveland then I can drive home the 3

hours with my husband and have that time to discuss and process what

the Dr.s have said before we get home to our 3 kids where it will be

harder to " think & talk. "

But, if I drive myself to Cleveland, then we will be driving

separate cars home.

The bus only costs $24, but doesn't arrive till late in the day,

so I will have to arrive a day earlier and spend an extra night in a

motel. Now, since that will be two nights in a motel...it will need

to be a cheaper motel. Are there any less expensive motel/hotels

also within public transportation of the Hospital or will I need a

Taxi? If I had to use a taxi or the motel costs are prohibitive

then, I would be forced to drive myself and come home in a separate

car.

So, I guess my question is, does anyone know where the bus

station is in relation to the hospital? Public transportation?

Cheap lodging?

Joy

ps. Amtrak is $89 and also didn't get in till afternoon. I don't

know why nobody seems to have any early morning arrivals. Even if my

Mom drives me to Toledo I can't catch anything that will get me there

before my 1pm appt. Too bad.

Joy -- did you try calling TCC and asking if they can switch the appt to early the next morning? (Not sure what time your other appts are for, though, to know if this is really an option...)

You might also want to check w/ some of the "airport shuttle" companies. There are all kinds of car companies that run shuttles between various cities -- maybe there's a Detroit-Cleveland route (or even a Detroit-Toledo plus a Toledo-Cleveland route)? (I have no idea if this is the case or not.... just spitting out things to look into!)

Another option is a one-way car rental. They're more expensive than round-trip, but you'd save on a whole extra night of hotel PLUS taxi/bus fares, etc.

But the first thing I would try is getting the appt switched to Friday sometime -- that's going to be the easiest thing to do, I think.

Good luck -- let us know what you find out!Debbi in Michigan

First thing I tried. The Dr.'s BOTH needed the results BEFORE they

met with me Fri. afternoon and nothing was available.

Your ideas are GREAT!! I have been frantic ever since I came to the

realization that I CAN " T drive myself afterall.....well, I could, but

I would have to wait around till later in the evening Friday to leave

for home (that's why they ask you to bring a driver in the first

place!) And I get really drowsy driving at night anyway, and after a

busy day I really wouldn't want to do it.

So, I am going to investigate your options. Your really on top of

things.

I'm glad it was helpful -- I hope you're able to find something that works for you! I don't know if you're a AAA member or not, but Hertz offers special discounts/upgrades for AAA members. My husband travels all over the place for his job, and he usually has good luck with Thrifty car rentals just about anywhere he goes, too. I hope something works out for you!Debbi
