Guest guest
, Glad to hear you are doing so well. Not sure if we should all keep your secret though. Maybe the wife needs to know! LOL I was just wondering if anyone has done any physical activity. I'm 7 weeks post op and the most I've done is walk a few blocks. I'm an avid tennis player and I think I'm just too nervous to get out there and play. Maybe because my recovery was not as quick as yours. I'm so afraid that if I go out and exert myself, my very painful post op spasms will come back. The Debbie closest to !
Guest guest
Debbie - I had the spasms, too. My husband & I went on vacation at 4 weeks post-op & I walked a LOT, swam, went down some waterslides. I had ZERO spasms. I'm having trouble, today, though & I am more & more convinced it is stress-related! Cindi, looking forward to the Paxil kicking in full-force! LOL!!!!!!!!!! ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here

Guest guest
--- Sorry you had a bad day. I've been taking a medication called Levbid. It's given for stomach and bowel spasms but my gastro thought it may help my E spasms also. I don't know if it's the time frame or the meds but they have certainly gotten better since my first two weeks post op. I also have the procardia to use in case of severe spasms that for some strange reason always end up in the middle of the night. I am going to ask my Dr. about Paxil though. Sounds like a good idea. Hope you have a better day tomorrow. Debbie (walking the floors trying to get the air out of my E since dinner) LOL In achalasia , " Cindi Wilmot " <cindiscandles@s...> wrote: > Debbie - I had the spasms, too. Guest guest
Debbie... several people here in the past have mentioned that Levbid (Levsin, NuLev, etc) helps them to either stop a spasm in progress, or else prevent them from happening at all. Great to hear that you are having less NCCPs, no matter what the reason (time or meds)!!!Debbi PS -- are you looking into Paxil as an anti-depressant, or as a preventative for NCCPs? If you're looking for anti-depressant meds, be sure to talk to your doc about ALL of your symptoms, as there are different meds that work in different ways, and Paxil may or may not be the best med for your particular situation. If you're looking for a prophylactic for NCCPs, I would suggest going with one of the meds that has been studied already (such as Nortriptyline, Amitriptyline, etc.) It's very possible that Paxil would have the same preventative effect on NCCP as these other drugs b/c it affects serotonin levels too, but since each med works in a slightly different way, I'd recommend going with a med with a known track record to start with, then switching to Paxil (or one of the other dozens of serotonin-affecting meds) later if it doesn't seem to be helping. --- Sorry you had a bad day. Guest guest
Thanks for the information Debbi. A few days after my surgery I would have said I needed the paxil for both depression and NCCP. Now, 7 almost 8 weeks later, I think my depression is getting better as are my NCCP. I just wanted to talk to the Dr. about the benefits of being on a medication long term. I'm not sure what effects the levbid will have after a while. I do know that one of the side effects is blurred vision and that has hit me big time. I only needed glasses to read before I started taking it. It seems every day I need them for more and more. I understand that it is something that comes with age but the progression is too fast and I'm almost convinced it is a side effect of the Levbid. I'm seeing an eye Dr. next week and will speak with my gastro Dr as well. I will trade my spasms for eyeglasses any day but if I could use something else that would benefit me the same way it would be better. Thank you again for the information. It's always nice to hear from first hand experience. Guest guest
NJ Debbie... you might also want to wean off the Levbid, or ask your doc for NuLev instead (I think that's the one -- he'll know for sure, b/c I don't have time to look it up right now). NuLev is taken sublingually and I believe can be taken on an "as needed" basis to stop a NCCP in progress, rather than an every-day-preventative, so that might reduce your side effects. Also, as you approach the 2-month mark, many people noticed that their NCCP subsided at the 2-3 month mark, so you may not need EITHER med! Pick my brain (but not my nose!) if you think of any questions on this.... I'll share what I can!Debbi in MI Thanks for the information Debbi.
