Guest guest
I got the results back from my sleep study. I have sleep apnea and will need the CPAP machine. At least it's not severe sleep apnea... I only stop breathing 17 times per hour but I'm not getting any REM sleep. The pulmonologist said my obstruction is down lower in my throat so now we're wondering if it might be achalasia related, so he suggests I see my GI doc to have an endoscopy and see what's going on. It wouldn't surprise me if the obstruction is caused by all the blood pressure meds that I take. They have a tendency to affect my esophagus. They dry me out and make me loose my voice, so it only makes sense that they might also cause an obstruction of my airways, but if I don't take my meds, my BP sky rockets and I'll have a stroke! The doctor isn't so sure the CPAP machine will be of much benefit to me, but I'll try it and see...if it works, my blood pressure should go down and maybe I could quit taking all the BP meds. Now I just have to wait 2 months to get the machine! Sandi
Guest guest
Hello holt-smith@..., In reference to your comment: I got the results back from my sleep study. The pulmonologist said my obstruction is down lower in my throat so nowwe're wondering if it might be achalasia related, You know I am thoroughly convinced that "A "causes a lot of our other problems, or maybe it is just the same nerve or muscles involved but it surely does seem to be connected somehow. I just told a dear friend that I was healthy as a horse until I got "A" and now I am falling apart. I thought due to my age, but sometimes I wonder. Will be anxious to hear what your doctors think. Guest guest
Sandi - I can relate to your problem with the BP meds I have 3 to get down and the only way I can do it is to wrap them in some soft margarine and have a big swallow of water. I take them one at a time with a gap in between. If you changed to another kind would they not be kinder to you and not make you so dry? I went through at least a dozen different lots before I found a group that worked and with little side effects. One kind Concor even gave me NCCP - spasms like you can only believe if you are an achalasian with spasms ! Guest guest
Hi Maggie, Thanks for your concern, I guess it could be any number of things, maybe even a peptic stricture caused from reflux. Dr. Rice did say that I wouldn’t know if I had reflux because of the nerves being destroyed. It will be awhile before I know anything, but I’ll keep you posted when I find out! Guest guest
Joan, What kind out medications are you taking for your BP??? At the moment I’m taking Diovan, Hydrochlorothiazide, Afeditab and Clonidine. It was finally the addition of the Clonidine that has gotten my BP under control, but I’ve read some scary things about this medication if it is not taken as directed and I’m known for forgetting to take my medications. I have just recently started keeping my medications next to my computer, and now I email myself with the time I took my meds and remind myself to take them again, otherwise I can’t remember if I’ve taken them or not! That was a good tip for swallowing your meds! I don’t have a problem with pills since having surgery, but I’m sure others here will find it useful! I have a dear friend who just recently moved here from Zimbabwe whom I met in my travel classes. She says she really misses the smell of Africa! :-) Take Care, Sandi Re: OT- Sleep Apnea Sandi - I can relate to your problem with the BP meds I have 3 to get down and the only way I can do it is to wrap them in some soft margarine and have a big swallow of water. They also make pill boxes that you program to " beep " when it's time to take a medication... Also, if you have Microsoft Works or Office on your computer, you can use the Calendar program to pop up a reminder for an 'appointment' at certain times every day -- just make an appt with yourself to take your pills at certain times every day! ) Debbi in MI

LOL Sandi Re: OT- Sleep Apnea Glad it's working for you, Sandi..... Now I use it all the time to remind myself to do various things, like postings that need to be done on the 10th of every month, or even to remind myself to leave 15 minutes before my doctor appt, etc! Amazing how helpful computer programs can be when we take the time to open them and see what they do! LOL! Deb Thanks Deb! That was a great idea! I just got my first reminder and have it set to remind me again in 8 hours! This system is actually working quite well for me. :-) Sandi They also make pill boxes that you program to " beep " when it's time to take a medication...
