The bids are in! hehehehe! I just got my insurance statement & my body was worth $15,000 for 3 days in April! I know someone asked about this awhile back. Thankfully, insurance covered it all, except a $10 copay!

Now, if you are paying for your own medical services out of pocket, I suggest you ask the doctor/hospital to please charge you what they would accept from the insurance companies. Our insurance paid about $12,500 of my costs & the rest the hospital forgave. Best wishes - you are worth every penny, even if you have to pay yourself! Cindi

What a bargain Cindi!

My surgery cost was $8,000 (of which I payed a very small portion and my surgeon ended up getting

$2500.) and my hospital bill was $102,000 for the weeks stay of which nothing

got paid because the company (Consolidated Freightways) went bankrupt. It may

be another 5 years before it ever gets resolved in court!

I’d like to think I’m worth

every penny of it, but I sure hope I don’t end up finding out that I

am!!! I’d really rather NOT get stuck with the bill! LOL

Well, I guess if everyone is kicking in their surgery costs I may as

well also. My surgery was 12,000$... insurance will pay most. As of

right now, it still hasn't been refunded. As for the hospital, I

stayed overnight one night.. private room.. it was 16,000$.. were my

sheets made of gold??????? GEZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

How do people afford being sick? It's so sad.

Well, my c-section ended up being right around $19,000 when all was said and done (surgeon, hospital, anesthesiologist, etc.) I was in the day before to be induced, so I was there from 6pm Sunday to 6pm Wednesday, exactly three full days (but of course they billed for FOUR days of a hospital room!)

I'd have to go back and look, but I want to say that the various doctors/hospital wrote off about $9,000 b/c of their insurance agreements -- the billing practices STINK when you consider that people who are poor and don't have any insurance get billed more than people who do have insurance!Socialized medicine has its share of problems, but at least it's a heck of a lot fairer!Debbi in Michigan

Sandi, was your hospital bill $102,000, or was that a

typo? I'm trying to determine the cost of surgery

because I have to pay a large % of the bill.

Mark,

That was no typo. I was in the hospital for a week...in a lovely private

room with a view! :-)

This is the rate that the hospital charged my insurance company

(Aetna)...if the hospital had been charging me personally, I certainly

hope that I would have been charged the discounted rate!!! Doctors and

hospitals always seem to charge more to the insurance companies (at

least in California they do) and then the insurance companies pay the

amount that is customary and acceptable, which is considerably less.

All the best to you Mark!

Good luck!

Mark - most hospitals don't care how long it takes as long as you are paying a little each month. My sis was in the hospital long-term a few times & they let her take years to pay it. YOU ARE WORTH IT!! Cindi

Mark, I would actually call the billing dept. at TCC and ask them what kind of "deals" they can make for you before you even have the surgery. You might be pleasantly surprised at how willing they are to work with you on things....
