Guest guest
Hi everyone, It all went fine. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I guess the anesthetic was a big help. I wasnt awake when the scope was inserted so I didnt notice a thing. Woohoo !!! I woke up with the tube for the manometry inserted through my nose. I had to wait another 10 minutes and then I could take the 5ml sips of water lying down. It wasnt awfull at all. The specialist immediatly knew which operation I should have: the myotomy. It appears that my sphincter is closed so cutting it open would make eating for me easier. I would always need water to force it down because of my pouch. There is only one downfall: there is a huge waitinglist at that hospital and I have to wait about 6 months !!! That is really a long time. I have to make sure that I dont get too weak and that my A doesnt get worse. Is there anyone else here who had to wait that long for their surgery ???? Oh, I would also like to know if there is anyone in this group with a pouch and who had a myomoty too. Are you able to eat again ??? Guest guest
Bianka, I am so glad to hear it all went well. Even when you know what is going to happen you can't help still feeling a bit apprehensive. I have a pouch, and though I did need a further dilatation after the myotomy I was able to eat afterwards. What I have decided of my own, is to eat mainly soft, almost liquid food most of the time so that it is easier to wash out the pouch with water. Bigger bits seem to stick there and collect so it is just easier to have soft food. When they do the myotomy they will have to empty and wash out the pouch. I wanted to keep it as empty as possible. You don't have to but it seems a good idea to me. I have bought myself a "stick" blender - the sort which looks like a hand held tube with a motor at the one end and a rotating blade at the other. You put this into a pot or container of food and it turns the food into pulp or liquid by chopping it fine (This one is made by Braun). I cook for my husband and I as I would normally and when I have served his food I just put mine in the container and liquidise it. That way I am eating the same food as he is (no extra work) and it tastes different every meal. Some things I can eat and chew - you will find those out by trial and error. Amazingly enough fish sticks, potato crisps also go down ok if I chew them well and drink lots of fluid with them. Did you ever get the e-mail I sent you with diagrammes of the oesophagus and various kinds of pouches ? If not I can post it again. It is a battle to keep up your strength, but by eating small amounts almost 2 hourly you can. Try having the liquid kiddies vitamins and minerals - they helped me huge amount. We are all here for you so shout when you need to and we will be listening! Lots of hugs!! Joan Johannesburg South Africajpearse@... My manometry Hi everyone, It all went fine. Guest guest
Hi Tania, The worst test is over with for you, in my opinion. I had the same problem with the manometry. She wanted me to drink with each swallow, but I couldn’t. I was vomiting up everything (that’s why they make you fast first J ) and then, just dry heaves, as she continued to push the tube down further. When do you go back for your results? It will all be ok Tania. You are strong. Once you have the surgery, you will feel sooo much better. Life turned around completely for me after surgery. Eating is a HUGE part of daily life as you know by now. J Once you have that back, you will be ok. Stay strong, your kids love you! Take care, in BC my manometry i had it done it wasnt to nice.. I guess there was a lil problem getting the tube down something kept pushing it back up.. The nurse just said it might be due to vomiting alot.. anyone experience this? also when i go back depending on the results I will be discussing surgery with my doctor.. is there anything I should ask him? anyone that has had the surgery are you admitted to the hospital or is it a in and out deal? Im very nervous and havent been feeling to good since I had the manometry done.. I am just wondering whats best for me.. I lost another 7 pounds since last month.. which is ok i need to lose some weight but not like this.. I am extremely scared.. I try to walk around my house like im ok only so my kids dont worry but im losing it inside.. anyone got any advice that may help? anyone that has had surgery that can reassure me ill be ok.. Just needing the support of people that are in the same boat... Thanks Tania
