Saturday they’ll be discussing Achalasia, so I think we should attend the Saturday Seminar…we

could have our party on Friday!

Seriously speaking, I would love to do this, but only for the one day!

Cleveland

Clinic Seminar Info

For

anyone who would seriously like to attend the seminar on April 16-17

that Maggie posted:

The Fourth Bi-annual Esophageal Symposium

http://www.clevelandclinicmeded.com/summit/esophageal/about.htm

Here's

the info:

For

non-health-professionals, the fee is the same as the " nurse fee " --

$250 for the full 2-day seminar, or $135/day if only attending one day (either

Friday or Saturday.)

Anyone

game?

Hop on a plane to DTW on Thurs. afternoon/evening (well, your afternoon *is* DTW's evening!) or anytime Friday, and I'll pick you up at the airport and drive us down to Cleveland.

Any other takers? Party in Cleveland.... come spend your tax refund! Deb

Oh how I wish I could go! Those of you who do need to take copious notes for

all of us. In a perfect world, we would all go, and we would carry picket signs

on the sidewalk calling for increased research for Achalasia! All, what is it,

471 of us now? What a great pipe dream!

You made my day! I don't

see me going to it though. A get together would be fun, but a conference

is an iffy thing for me. I would have to have a high expectation that

some thing would be better if I attended the conference, but I don't have

that expectation. It could happen, but at this point I see no reason to

expect much. Sorry if I am a wet blanket. This is just me, and I am not

saying you or others would not enjoy it.

, it would be awesome if you could come too !!!!

I'm thinking we could make up some BRIGHT shirts (fluorescent yellow?) that say things like:

"Think you know what Achalasia is? Ask me for The Real Story!"

"Achalasia -- What's in YOUR esophagus?!"

"Has your child ever watched you hurl your supper into the kitchen sink? Then you DON'T know what achalasia really is!"

Hey Boston Pete (and everyone else) -- can you come up with some other catchy phrases for us???? I'm thinking of stuff that's likely to make people really take the initiative to talk to us.....

Deb

Shoot!! I wish I could go too! Ohio is a bit far from New York. :( You guys are our representatives though! I'm gonna be VERY jealous of you all having a party and me not being there! I'm with ...take notes for us! (and maybe some pictures too?!)

Okay, I couldn't help myself. I checked on Expedia.com for flight prices and it's not bad at all! Round trip from NY to Cleveland is only $161. Hmm.....since it's a weekend thing and I won't miss any work time (being I took 2 1/2 weeks off only a month ago for my recovery), I can actually consider this!

The way I look at it is that I'm not gonna "change the whole face of achalasia" by going there and talking to some of the participants, but if I can make even ONE GI doc think of achalasia differently (better!), then I will have "made something better" for someone down the road.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to let several docs know what it's like to LIVE with this disease, what it's like to live with the NCCP's/spasm pains (and why it's unnecessary!), what it's like to be told "it's all in your head", etc.

I don't think that my attendance is gonna change anything for me personally with regards to my own treatment/progress, but I do think that I can have an influence on healthcare providers and/or researchers, which has the potential to change things for many more achalasia patients for years to come.

:o)

Debbi, hoping she talked notan into coming to the Symposium!

Deb…I like:

“Achalasia—What’s in YOUR esophagus?” But I don’t

want to wear a T-Shirt to a Medical Symposium. I think professional dress is

more appropriate. Buttons would be good though!

I’m on my way out the door now, but I’m

going to try and give you a call this afternoon around 3:00pm (my time), will you be home from work yet?

Anybody else coming?

Visit us atachalasia

This is the one I vote for, Notan! The more dialog, the better!

Not that I can go...I will be busy getting ready for my myotomy on the 19th! However, just an observation to those of you attending this medical conference....I think it is great that you are going. I also think that both you & they can learn from one another & an approachable & teachable spirit will serve everyone best. Obviously, any MD there is there to learn. Have fun & keep us posted!
