If you have family and friends that you eat with, you should teach them a signal that means you need help. I doubt you will ever need the signal, but if a waitress comes by while you are unable to speak, those with you can assure her that she doesn't need to do the Heimlich Maneuver, because you are not giving the signal. It also gives some comfort to those with you that they know you could let them know, and that they would understand, if you needed help. You may also want a sign for " get out of the way. " And if they ever get us our own restaurant, " pass the silver bucket. " notan
Guest guest
Hi Pete. Where are you from in Maine? Eating out--the way I always coped was just making sure I had lots of water to drink, and eating small bites, chewing carefully, and ordering easy foods. But this is what worked for me--I know A is different for everyone. As long as I had enough water to drink, I could get food down with quiet gulping, usually hiding my face behind my water glass, looking down, and hoping no one would notice my throat distorting or my eyes filling with water....honestly, it sucked. Your best plan of action is to order stuff that is easy t eat, and eat slowly. jes -----Original Message-----From: Pete [mailto:dissolutionsolutions@...]Sent: Wednesday, January 28, 2004 1:57 PMachalasia Subject: Eating in a restarauntWhat's the best way to deal with eating out?Pete from Boston(actually from the back wood of Maine originally!) Guest guest
HI Jes, I'm from a town called Waterville in Maine. You mentioned picking food you considered easy. I'm still kinda new to this. Which food do people find easier to swallow. I went out the other night and ordered a chicken fajita. Chicken, peppers, cheese, onions, etc... all cut up into little pieces. It was ok if I ate the ingredients without the tortilla wrap. But I honestly had a hard time picking what to eat. Help? > Hi Pete.
