" I also have a very good friend that has been a pathologist

for over 20 years and he researched Achalasia for me, I felt

overwhelmed. I trusted his opinion and I'm glad I did. "

Jenifer,

I am interested in finding out about the pathologist reseaching achalasia

for you. (I sent you a personal e-mail but guess you never received it.)

What did he find out for you? If you prefer, you can e-mail me direct. I've

always been interested in donating my body for studying hoping it would help

them in helping others.

Ma

Ma, you and I have a lot in common!

I too am interested in a pathologist's opinion of this disease, and I too

would like to donate my body (or at least everything connected to my

esophagus -- the reusable vital organs I'd like to go to people in need of

a transplant) in an effort to help the medical community understand more

about what causes this disease, how to prevent it, and how best to treat

it.

Also he said something else that was interesting. Hesaid that this surgery is very common in California. Ididn't get into specifics at the time but thought it wasinteresting.

You know, I was just wondering. The surgeon who operated on me just about a yr ago for a lap Nissen fundoplication said that surgery to correct GERD ( fundoplication) is much more common on the West coast than here in the midwest, that people in general are more conservative here. I just thought that was odd, since your friend mentioned the same thing about myotomies.

,

I'm sorry I didn't get your e-mail. I don't know if I'm

doing something wrong because I e-mailed Biancka and I

don't think she ever received it.

Anyway I asked my friend who is a patholigist to check

out the best treatment of A. He determined that the lap

surgery was the way to go for me. He felt when it came

to your motor systems, as he called it, you want a

controlled procedure. He felt the ripping by a balloon

was " uncontrolled " so why would you want to take the

chance. Also the surgery is a longer term fix with a

high success rate. I know this is information we all

know from just talking on this site. However, at the

time I did not know about this site and that information

was very helpful in my decision as I was afraid of surgery.

Also he said something else that was interesting. He

said that this surgery is very common in California. I

didn't get into specifics at the time but thought it was

interesting.

I was out to dinner with another friend who is a radiologist.

When I first told him I had A he exclaimed " What a pain

in the chest! " . (as opposed to what a pain in the #****@!)
