You know you're an Achalasian when.......The waiter asks you what you would like with your coffee and you answer water.

I can't even give blood anymore -- my blood pressure is low to begin with,

and just the act of taking out a pint of blood lowers the blood volume so

much that it lowers my pressure to the point where I'm barely pumping!

Takes forever to fill that little bag a drip at a time! (If you're hooked

up for more than an hour or so w/o filling the bag, they'll unhook you and

they can't use your blood... that last time I was doing a little " chair

dance " trying to get my blood going fast enough to fill that bag!)

This is really depressing to me, b/c I grew up as a RC Volunteen working

on blood drives every week, and I organized a blood drive in my high

school (over the objections of the ass't principal -- fortunately the head

principal's daughter had dated my brother, so he at least gave me the time

of day when I pleaded my case!) my senior year, etc. I gave regularly

until the issue came up with my low BP; now when they issue statements

about a blood shortage, all I can do is encourage others to donate. :o(

For those who *are* able to donate blood, please do! And if you can't

donate yourself, encourage your family / friends / neighbors / coworkers

to donate if they are eligible. It's simple to do and can literally save

a life.
