Some people have had achalasia develop very quickly like your symptoms. It would be good to rule out pseudoachalasia. An x-ray and a manometry test would help you confirm what you have. >The swallow problem/Inflammation problem to me is of temporary nature as I >already told.I feel no symptoms for 3-4 days and feel them for another 2-3days. Many of us have good days and bad days. If you still have days without symptoms you are doing better than many. Often, good days are just days where the symptoms are not as bad but they are still there. >I want to know , whether in case of Alachasia , the food intake will >stopped permanently or instead of permanent food staopage in esophagus , >the swallow problem continue.? What is danger to life ? Can any medicine >improve the situation ????????? Some people, not all, reach a point where they can not eat or drink at all and need emergency treatment. Some go for years without any treatment and just make adjustments to how they eat. The greatest danger is from getting lung infections from aspirating food into the lungs while sleeping. There are treatments that doctors can do. The surgery is best when done by someone that has done many. One treatment may not work at all or it may work very well for the rest of your life. Medicines can help. (Hopefully someone will post a list of medications). If you have achalasia it is for life, but you may be able to improve the symptoms. notan
Guest guest
M.S., welcome to the group. I am one whose symptoms of Achalasia progressed at a rapid rate. I had my first symptom which was the chest pains in the early fall, immediately followed by difficulty in swallowing. By April I could keep down solids or liquids and had lost 30 lbs. I am sure some foods did eventually get through but most of the time I would be running to regurgitate several times during a meal. The food never reached my stomach before coming back. This happened to me at every meal and I never had skipped days as you seem to. I too, as you and many others here, was treated for GERD before I was diagnosed with Achalasia in June or July, just 9 months after my first symptoms. We all seem to be different. Feel free to ask any specific questions you'd like to. We are all here for each other and will be happy to answer you. I don't know of medicine that can help but there are procedures that can if it is Achalasia. Is it possible for you to see a doctor that has experience with Achalasia. I know even here in the states with all the doctors we have it is still difficult to diagnose. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I never had the balloon dialation. I went ahead and had laproscopic surgery with a anti-reflux procedure. I know the surgery is a longer term fix than the balloon. The surgery was not as difficult as I thought, make sure you have a good surgeon. Immediately after surgery I was able to drink liquids with no problem. Within 2 weeks I was eating normally again. Surgeon said there is no way to know if I will ever need another procedure, some people don't. Others have symptoms again but not as servere and some will need another procedure. It sounds like if you have achalasia you are in the early stages. The test they gave me to confirm achalasia was a manomotry(spelling?). And and a barium swallow. The manomotry is uncomfortable but it needs to be done. I don't know anything about surgeons in your area but I know some good ones here. Happy new year to you too. Also know as secondary achalasia, it is the symptoms of achalasia caused by another problem. A tumor near the LES is one thing that could cause achalasia symptoms. Another would be Chagas disease, and also Scleroderma can cause the symptoms. In all these cases achalasia would be said to be secondary to the primary disease. On the other hand, what most people in this group have is " primary " achalasia, also known as idiopathic achalasia, meaning achalasia of unknown cause, because no one knows for sure what causes primary achalasia. notan
