I have boys, notan! :-) I too have developed that skill… I have actually gotten as good at tuning out the ringing in my ears as I do my kids fighting and the disgusting noise contests that they enjoy so much. But when it’s really quiet (when I’m alone), it seems so loud and can be very annoying. Just like you said , I wonder how I’m not aware of it all the time. I just haven’t perfected the skill well enough to ignore the ringing when it is really quiet! The ringing seems to ring to the beat of my heart. I guess I could think of it as music to my ears. :-) It is kind of like a mantra, , I was given a mantra years ago when I was in high school and I was a member of Transcendental Meditation…when I meditate now, I say my mantra along with the ringing…and my heartbeat. The ringing is mostly a problem for me when I’m reading and studying, so I just put my headphones on while I’m studying or reading a book and turn up the volume to drown out the ringing…I’m surprised that I’m able to concentrate so well on my studies while I’m listening to music, but it actually helps me to focus. Guest guest
Thanks notan. I haven’t brought it up to any of my doctors for quite some time, come to think of it, none of my current doctors know of the problem. I’ve just done a search on pulsating tinnitus and I guess I should bring this to my doctor’s attention. I don’t think I have a problem with ear infections, inflammation or fluid. What was the cause of the pressure in your ears? Holt- RE: Re: I was once diagnosed with Meuniere's Disease...it went away! Holt- wrote: >The ringing seems to ring to the beat of my heart. I have some stereo ear buds that I ware under some noise blocking earmuffs. The combination puts pressure on my ears. It does not always happen. I think it also requires that my heart be beating harder and maybe that I also have a sinus infection. As I think about it, it may have less to do with the pressure and more to do with the lack of sound under the earmuffs while my heart rate and BP are up. notan
Guest guest
Another *weird* possibility might have to do with a curvature in my spine. If you look at my x-ray, the curvature at the top of my spine curves the opposite direction that it is supposed to curve. This curvature is hereditary. My mom had it and I have passed it along to my daughter and my youngest son. I just made my doctor aware of my curvature a couple of months ago and he didn’t seem concerned…he is mostly concerned with trying to get my BP lowered. (I have actually started taking folic acid for my BP and this is helping). I notice that if I turn my head and look over my shoulder, the pulsating subsides and turns into a steady ring with no pulse. This is why I wonder if it has to do with my curvature. I just tried another trick…if I open my mouth really wide, the pulsating also stops! I am a strange one. Unique, but strange. :-) Holt- Re: I was once diagnosed with Meuniere's Disease...it went away! Tinnitus can also be caused my TMJ, which is a jaw problem related to the way your jaw is functioning at the joint. If you open your mouth wide and hear a clicking sound, you could have TMJ. > > >The ringing seems to ring to the beat of my heart. > > Mine will do that if I have some pressure in the ears. Guest guest
I also meant to say that, yes, I do have TMJ. Holt- Re: I was once diagnosed with Meuniere's Disease...it went away!
