Guest guest
My husband was diagnosed with achalasia June of this year. He has lost approx. 60 lbs. since May 13. We finally ended up at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville TN. talking to Dr. Sharp an excellent respected surgeon. He has preformed many heller myotomies. Well my husband had his surgery Wed. stayed one day in the hospital. They had him drink a little liquid. Well today he has tried to drink milkshake and he is still spitting up the foamy stuff. Maybe I'm expecting too much too soon. This disease has put our lives on hold. I was so glad to find this group and see that others have gone through the same thing. Please tell me that things will get better. The doctor said he is still having spasms because of the trauma of the surgery and if they don't go away in 2 or 3 days he will try him on nitroglycerine tablets they seem to work he said. Has anyone else had any experience with this? Thanks again for being here for me.

Hubby and I may make an appointment to talk face to face with the surgeon and let him explain in greater detail as to what he is thinking. .... One thing I would want to know from him is why the other surgeries failed, and what that may imply for either of the two options. Maybe it is time to find another surgeon, at least for an opinion. notan
