Guest guest
Hi Kim, Wow, another recovering myotomized girl from February! That makes 5 that I know of, including me on Feb. 5. I think you will find it will all go away. Honestly I am feeling so good now that I almost forget the first two weeks. 1. I was also so happy to be able to DRINK! I was on a full liquid diet for two weeks, which did include cream of wheat, pudding, yogurt and ice cream, but I didn't eat even soft foods like scrambled eggs or mashed potatoes. On that diet I did not feel sick. 2. I didn't get pain in the E when swallowing, although did. I did have sort of a pressing pain there that I kept taking liquid Tylenol for until just a few days ago. I can feel it now because I am tired but don't think I'll take anything. But in the last couple days it has dawned on me that I was not feeling it most of the time. 3. I remember the left shoulder/neck pain, I think it lasted a couple weeks. My doctor said it was because as the carbon dioxide gas dissipates some of it forms carbonic acid which irritates the diaphragm which refers the pain to the shoulders. When do you have your check-up with the surgeon? Kathy Washington 10 days post-myotomy questions Hello I had a myotomy with partial wrap feb. 27. I have noticedsome relief especially with drinking. I don't feel dehydrated anymore.I am still on a soft food diet, so I am eating pretty much the same asI was before surgery, but without regurgitation, sticking feeling or spitting up. I have noticed that I cannot eat very much before I feel full and sometimes I feel sick. Has that happened to anyone else? Also, I get pains down in my E when I eat, sometimes when I stand upand when I am walking (spasms?). There has also been pains in the left side of my neck that have been very sloooowly abating. I have been told that it could be the carbon dioxide they used in surgery toinflate my stomach. Can it last this long?I was just wondering if anyone else had had these discomforts as welland if theare part of the healing process and will go away or if theyare unusual and something isn't going right.all your input and experience is much appreciated. Thanks and love to you allKim
Guest guest
Kathy & Kim I am so jealous of you guys. When I had my first myotomy there was no LAP surgery. Anyway, I wanted to say that even with the last surgery I had, I could not eat very much without feeling full very quickly. My doctors told me it was because of swelling from the surgery and it would go away. It did, but it took about a month really before I noticed a change. Guest guest
hello, my follow-up is on March 19th. I amm feeling a little better each day. I was told by the surgeons nurse to try mylanta or maalox for the gas and it seems to haveased the discomfort a bit. I can't wait to try and eat real food again especially pizza and hamburgers (God I miss them! ). I am currently 9 pounds under weight and need to gain about 15 to be at a good weight for me. I was thin to begin with and now I look like I am anorexic, but I am sure I will make up for lost time. thanks and love to all.
Guest guest
Kim, I had my myo. on 2/5 also. I experienced the same symptoms you describe. The pain in my shoulder persisted for three weeks. I kept getting these pains in my E and in my stomach. My dr. told me it was all the swelling inside and the pulling of the incision. It has gotten so much better. For me it took about 3 1/2 weeks. Now I feel great. Eat anything but hard breads and tough red meats. Everything goes right down. Let yourself rest and heal, it is so worth it. Guest guest
Thank you all soooo much. You have helped to ease my fears of this being uncomfortable 4-ever. I had a few days ( right after surgery) where I wondered if the pain was worth it, but it is. I am getting better everyday and can probably go back to work next Monday. Thanks and love to all Kim
Guest guest
Hi Kim! I had my surgery on 2/3 and my post a few days after surgery sounds a lot like yours! I had a lot of pain down in my E for about 2.5 weeks after surgery and I was so worried something was wrong, then it just faded away. I have much relief with drinking....my E does not fill up! Although I am having a Bougie dilation on Friday because eating solid foods is still a big struggle and gets real stuck...bread and beef are out of the question! My doctors feel like I should have more relief now and think the dilation will help it along. I had the same strange pain in my shoulder..or right below my shoulder around where my top 3 ribs are (I think ;-0). I still get pains there every so often if I move in a weird way....I attribute that to all the gas they put in (mine traveled all the way into my face and swelled my eye shut and then around to my back...my stomach was flat after surgery because the gas was every where else! Ouch!). I also get full very easily (just after a few bites) and it can be uncomfortable. Going so long without solid foods makes your stomach shrink so much that now - even with just more liquids and mushy foods - we're still getting more into our tummies than before and now our stomach is stretching out....even though it's uncomfortable I am thankful to be able to feel full - and sorry that there are still so many of our friends out there who dont get that feeling...yet!! Best of luck to you! > > Hi Kim, > > Wow, another recovering myotomized girl from February! That makes 5 > that I know of, including me on Feb. 5. I think you will find it > will all go away. Guest guest
, Good luck with the bougie dilatation tomorrow! My sister and BIL will be at UCSF tomorrow for testing as well. If I had the day off, I'd go along with them and stop by and say hi! Drive carefully going into SF, I think it's supposed to be very stormy tomorrow. Hope the dilatation gives you some added relief! Guest guest
Hi Sandi! We will definitely find a time to get together...we live close enough to make it work...I may be in your neck of the woods in a few weeks and will let you know when that is. I'll get online this weekend and let everyone know about the bougie!! > > > Hi Kim, > > > Wow, another recovering myotomized girl from February!
