Here's a rundown of some of the acronyms I use in my emails and chats (I'm an internet junkie! LOL) -- , I'm impressed that you actually did 'net research to come up with the answer! Good job, young man! :o)For starters, I'm sure you're familiar with sideways faces::o) Smiley face

:o( Frowny face

:oP Sticking out my tongue at someone (in jest)

;o) Winking eye smiley face (*wink wink*)

(there are tons of others, but those are the ones you'll see me using most often)

Here are some of my most common acronyms/abbreviations. Some of them I have learned on other groups, some of them I made up on my own. Since you asked about one in particular, I'll start with that (it's one I'm especially proud of, as I "invented" it a little over three years ago while chatting online with a roomful of other women in late pregnancy, so it had a particularly relevant/literal meaning to us all at the time).

PMPLMAO is Peeing My Pants Laughing My A** Off (you can fill in the blanks, I'm sure!) [imagine 15 women in their eighth or ninth month of pregnancy laughing hysterically at something one of them said, and you can see why this was particularly appropriate for our group at that time!]

LOL is Laughing Out Loud

LMAO is Laughing My A** Off

ROTF is Rolling On The Floor (often followed by LMAO or LOL, and for really GOOD ones, you can ROTFPMPLMAO -- those are the ones where you get those cramps in your cheeks and behind your ears from laughing so hard!!!)

IMO is In My Opinion

IMHO is In My Honest Opinion

JMO is Just My Opinion

My 2c (or) My .02 is "my two cents' worth" (an American saying, not sure if it translates appropriately in "Aussie-speak"!) -- means basically "that's my opinion, that's how I feel about it, that's my take on this subject, etc"

PITA is Pain In The A** (once again, I'm sure you can fill in what the ** stands for!)

KWIM is Know What I Mean?

SWIM is See What I Mean?

BTDT is Been There Done That (another American-ism -- does it get used in Australia too?)

TIA is Thanks In Advance (when you ask a question and want to thank people who will be replying)

TTYL is Talk To You Later

BTW is By The Way

DH is Dear Husband (some use Darling Husband, or given the mood of the moment, it's been translated not-so-endearingly as "Di**Head" at times too!)

DS is Dear Son

DD is Dear Daughter

DW is Dear Wife

DF is Dear Fiance(e) for those not yet married

BF or GF is Boyfriend or Girlfriend

MIL is Mother In Law

FIL is Father In Law

BIL is Brother In Law (or in my case, this is interchangeable with PITA, but I digress)

SIL is Sister In Law

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.... if I think of more I'll post them too (or if anyone can think of some common ones I've missed, please add them too!). If I ever use one that you don't recognize, slap me about a bit and I'll post a 'translation' ASAP (as soon as possible).

Debbi in Michigan, FMAO (Freezing My A** Off after spending last week in the Caribbean!)
