Guest guest
Hi Everyone! Thanks Debbi for posting our update - I am very sorry that I did not get to talk to you when I called, but we will have plenty of time for that now. I hope you enjoyed your son's birthday on Friday. This update is going to be short and sweet - I am exhausted!! As Debbi posted, everything went WONDERFULLY!!!! Chet spent the first two nights in ICU, and I camped out right in his room with him. I was sent an angel during his surgery, and she happened to be the Chief of Nursing Operations at the hospital (just so happened our surgeon did surgery on her father that morning) so she wrapped her arms around me and made sure that we were totally taken care of from the start. She made sure that there were complete orders that I was to stay with Chet the entire time, and she also made sure that we were given a private room when he was moved from ICU. It was truly amazing that things happened the way they did - as it was I was already packed and wasn't leaving anyway - we went in together and we were leaving together!! She also informed me that she had brought her father in from Oklahoma because our surgeon is the best there is - she had also hand picked the surgical team for that day and she said that she would hand pick Chet's nurses in ICU for us. She said that we had the best of the best! She truly was an angel!! We got home about four hours ago, and everything is going well. Chet has eaten and he said that everything seems fine. His barium swallow came back perfect yesterday. He is eating soft food - we are going to take baby steps with this. He is still afraid to attempt some of the really bad foods from pre-surgery - I can hardly blame him, but it is AMAZING to see him eating again!!! Oh yes - the mass that I was so worried about - there was NOTHING!! The surgeon said that he did agree that there was something there on the CT scan, but he didn't believe it was anything - maybe even just inflamed tissue - well there was NOTHING (I LOVE SAYING THAT!!) there. He did biopsy a few of Chet's lymphnodes in the area just because of his brother, but they also came back NEGATIVE!!!!! We couldn't be happier! This surgery is sure a tough one, but we can now see a light at the end of the tunnel! Thank you everyone for all of your knowledge and support throughout our journey these past couple of months. I have to get back to Chet now - we are both in dire need of a real night sleep. Did I say short and sweet - You all know by now that I am never just short and sweet!!! Guest guest
Thanks Debbi! We had a great night last night - Chet was only up once for his pain medicine, and he is still sleeping this morning. I wanted to tell you your son is a doll baby!!!!!!!!!! I didn't get a chance to respond to that email, but I will send you a couple of pictures sometime this week. Now - How are you doing? Are you still thinking that you are having difficulty? I sure hope not!!!! Thanks again! > WAAAAA HOOOOOOOOOOOO! > > That about sums it up, I guess! > > Keep us posted, , and I hope you can all get LOTS of rest and Chet enjoys all the yummy foods he's been missing out on! > > Debbi
Guest guest
I'm so glad to hear you got some good sleep! I can't wait to see some pics of your family as well. When we get back from vacation (I'll be gone from this weekend until the third of Feb) I'll try to post some pics here on the site for all to see. I was very pleased with 's 3yo pics last week, and would love to show him off to everyone! LOL I am having a *bit* more difficulty, but nothing at all like that one bad night/morning a couple weeks ago. I've noticed the starts of spasms, mostly in the morning, once or twice a week, but so far they've stopped after I drink a lot of warm water. Probably sometime this summer I'll look into getting lap. surgery at Cleveland. But if they can't do it lap. I'll just put it off longer.... I just can't handle the open surgery right now between my job, my preschooler, and my husband's job (he travels a lot so I'm a "part-time single mom" when he's gone). I'll keep you posted when I decide anything... I can't wait to hear Mark's impression of Cleveland, too (he's taking his daughter there this week). Now, go take a nap! That's an order from one mommy to another mommy!Debbi Thanks Debbi! We had a great night last night - Chet was only up once for his pain medicine, and he is still sleeping this morning. Guest guest
Hi Kathy; Unfortunately Chet has already been having spasms. Things didn't work as well as expected. We all wish Chet a full recovery. . Re: Message from re: Chet's Surgery - Hi All We Are Home! Hi Everyone! Guest guest
Thanks Kathy! Now we have to keep our fingers crossed for long term success. Chet ate his first hamburger (baby bites) and a baked potato last night without any problems. He also had his first coke in months - he could not tolerate carbonation before the surgery. > > I got a call from today -- we were out with my son for his > > third birthday lunch (my husband and I both took the day off) so I > > didn't get to talk to her directly, but she did leave me a message > on > > our machine. > > > > She said that Chet's surgery went WONDERFULLY. Guest guest
Hi - The spasms are pretty much excpected immediately after the surgery. I have read several places that they usually occur for the first couple of weeks after surgery. The Doctor even prescribed a strong muscle spasm prescription because of this. Chet is doing wonderful eating - he has no problems swallowing now - he has been able to have cold and carbonation again. > > I got a call from today -- we were out with my son for his > > third birthday lunch (my husband and I both took the day off) so I > > didn't get to talk to her directly, but she did leave me a message > on > > our machine. > > > > She said that Chet's surgery went WONDERFULLY.
