Guest guest
I wonder the same thing as my daughter has problems with reflux now and she it 46. I will bet anything that by the time she is my age, she will have more problems. I am 65, soon to be 66 in Oct. They just don't know enough about this disease yet. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Good luck. Bev. SC
Guest guest
Donna - Although there is no single known cause for achalasia, there does seem to be some statistical support for a hereditary connection. Like many hereditary diseases, it often skips a generation, as was the case in my family. My grandfather had the disease in the early 1940s and it ultimately caused his death; the family was poor and, medical science being less exact than it is now, the condition went untreated. As far as physicians in your part of the world, I know there have been many correspondents to this message board who live in Australia. If you don't hear from anyone, go back in the archived messages and I'm sure you'll come upon some information that can help your son find a physician. Good luck - Carol the only permanent cure Hi people ,well its been 10 months since my myotomy and a half wrap,i feel great ,can eat anything i want, even apples hadnt ate an apple in over 10 years ,took the nifedipine, partial relief, had the balloon ,no improvements ,had botox good for about a month, but the surgery , i have gone from 145 lbs to 205 ,have to slow down eating ,Im a firefighter and very active and the surgery hasnt slowed me down a bit.My advice dont waste anymore time ,get the myotomy ,you will not regreat it ,it is not that bad ,love you all and understand your fear and concerns ,just find a good doctor and go for it
