Wow...what happened? Why didn't yours work? Did you know right away?

The reason my Hellers did not work was that the surgeon had NEVER done this

kind of operation before(even when asked pre op if he had any experience at

this type of surgery he replied Yes)What he forgot to tell me was that this

experience was gained during his medical training and not actually on a

LIVING(for want of a better word)person.He experienced unforeseen

complications during my surgery and could not cut enough of my L.E.S to give

me any relief what so ever.And yes I could tell straight away it had not

worked (they asked me to try and drink some water and it came straight back

up).Seven weeks after my Hellers he sent me to another doctor to have yet

another dilation,I had this done but it seemed to get worse,And she

recommended that I have another Barium Swallow test done,I had this done and

was amazed because they placed the monitor in front of me and let me watch

as they carried out the test.Unfortunately I could also see the state of my

esophagus(it had stretched really wide this is what they called a FOOD

POUCH)and had RAT TAILED,They also noticed that I had bad scarring after my

failed Hellers and three failed Dilations.I am now waiting to see yet

another surgeon who wants to carry out ANOTHER Hellers Myotomy but instead

of doing it laparoscopically he wants to go in through the fifth and sixth

rib to be able to cut more of the L.E.S and then do a partial Nissan

Fundoplication.I was not going to bother having all this done again because

I have lived with this for nearly eleven years now but reading yours and

others success stories have changed my mind.Hope your recovery goes well

(mine took about two weeks)and I hope Ron has just as good a surgery as

Don't you just wonder how that doctor could have looked you in the

eye as he told you he had done your surgery before?

I am so sorry that you have had to go through all of that. I just said

a prayer for you. I hope that your new doctor is wonderful and that you

get the relief you so deserve and need. Where do you live?

Has your new doctor done very many of these?

Hi ,Thanks for your reply,I live in South Wales U.K.and our National

Health Service is free so most of our hospitals are training hospitals and

to be fair our doctors are very overworked but this does not make me feel

any better about what happened to me,This said the surgeon who did my

Hellers has tried to help me a lot since my surgery by asking FAVOURS of his

colleagues and trying to speed up my future operation, But all this said I

still think it is more of a guilty conscience than trying to help.Once again

I wish you a speedy recovery and hope to hear from a jubilant Ron very

soon.P.S as for the ex-lax it has been nearly five months since my op and I

still need HELP doing a number 2 So it is not uncommon .Best Wishes .
