Sometime in the past five years or so I suffered a " silent " heart attack that wasn't detected until a few years after it happened--luckily no lingering damage to the heart. I, too am taking antidepressants and still working. It sounds like your PA is worse than mine, but in answer to your question, yes I do worry about the long-term effect of the meds at times. But on the other hand I also think about what my life would be like if I weren't taking the meds. I know that without my PA meds I would be in a wheelchair by now--at least I can get around with a help of a cane. I know what it's like to be depressed, and in addition to your meds, I wonder if you're getting some counseling or therapy. You seem to see your glass as half-empty, but when I read about what you've accomplished--getting a BA and entering Law School--those are incredible accomplishments for someone *without* a disability! A good therapist can help you see how much you've been able to do and at the same time help you learn to accept the limitations this blankety-blank disease has imposed on you. Get professional help and good luck--you've got a lot going for you! RD

Guest guest
Dear Lesli, I agree that in children OCD often walks hand in hand with depression. , my ten year old, had terrible depression - veyr tearful, suggested we would be better off without her, etc. I immediately called her therapist as well as the MD. We upped her meds (Prozac) and she responded fairly quickly. I can understand how they must be depressed - no child wants to be different . In addition, that element of shame makes it difficult for them to gain any peer support for their efforts. Insist that the dr. listen to you about this!!! Possibly write down some of your daughter's comments and observations you have made about her, then bring the entire diary with you. Unfortunately, we have to be strong advocates for our children in order for them to receive the best treatment. Good luck! Gail

Guest guest
I live in Arlington, VA and the county has a good Parent Infant Education program for families with children having disabilities. They have a parent to parent coordinator that calls once a month to check up on us and they have two evening coffee hour-parent support meetings. These are for parents with children having any type of disability. They have two a month. One for parents with kids under age 6/7 and the other for those with older children. Works out well. There is not a support group specifically for those with DS kids which I would like. They did hook us up with another family with twins and one with triplets (each having one DS child). We just communicate via email - no meetings. Kay (mom to , , -ds, 7 mos. old)

Guest guest
Just having a teenager is enough to make anyone suicidal. Trust me on this one, its like a " right of passage " for adults. You get them when they are cute and cuddly, then they grow, and try to see how much any one person can take. After the teen years, you just hope that they have become human again. The combo just seems to add to the problem, but, just try to smile, and use lots of duct tape and velcro. But, seriously, some of this is very normal and you have a double whammy with a teenager. Good luck. Marty
Guest guest
To , My side effects are usully shortness of breath and rapid heart palpitations. Sometimes nausea and light headedness if I continue to move at a quik pace when my heart is racing. The 'quick pace' could be climbing a staircase, walking my dog, or talking rapidly. Guest guest
What a terrible shame that these bandits are causing so many to abandon this wonderful group. When I first had my implant and found it a God send, very supportive, consoling, and it brought me some peace. I hope many of you wll reconsider. I don't know what can be done about the spam, but something can be done. It is a great shame to lose this wonderful group because of some nitwits Best wishes from Theo. Guest guest
My son is 27 months old and only says about 5 words, most unintelligable except to me and sometimes his dad, we are in the process of getting him diagnosed, but everyone keeps telling me they won't diagnose him before the age of 3. We live in Southern California, and if anyone can help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Kari

Guest guest
Re:Message: 22 Nelly- I'm doing okay generally. I've had more nausea reaction to the flagyl, which I tak for three days once a week at this point. Can't seem to tolerate more than three days of it both stomach wise and herx wise. I was doing fine on yeeast with once a day Threelac, then neglected it for a couple weeks and seem to be herxing from starting again-- a lot of pain last night after taking a packet of the threelac which had not been happening when I was regular with it. C'est la Chlamydia! My understanding of why Stratton lists certain agents as " preferred " is that in his patented testing procedures these are the ones that have shown the most broad anti-chlamydial action to the particular phase of the organsim they are directed at. The key thing is to use two agents that supress the replicating phase-- eg doxy/zithro-- and drive the organism into the non-replicating phase where it can be killed by the bacteriacidal eg flagyl. This is why Wheldon says to continue on the abx while you are pulsing the flagyl-- to keep as much of the replicating bacteria suppressed, limit the cryptic phase from coming out of the cells (where the flagyl kills it) and becoming replicating again. I don't quite understand this third phase he talks about, but Stratton didn't seem to emphasize it in his brief response to my email, just saying the niacinamide dose I am taking is " okay. " How are you reacting to the tinidazole? I may need to shift to it if I build up more stomach problems from the flagyl. It's great news that your blood and immune profile is improving on this. A clear sign that you are steadily reducing the bacterial load, in addition to feeling better! Yeah! Jim Date: Fri, 22 Apr 2005 18:21:24 +0200 From: " Nelly Pointis " <janel@...> Subject: Re: Re: Nelly- Part Deux Jim, Thanks, Is metronidazole prefered bec that's the most used and easy to get imidazole in the USA or is it bec of special properties (like the fact that metronidazole has a smaller molecular weight than tinidazole)? I've never heard of the other -azoles listed except for benzimidazole. >Of the abx for the replicating phase he lists a bunch. >Your spiramycine isn't on the list. I'm not surprised it's an oldish macrolide, it is sold in France but it might not even be easily got in other less fortunate countries (France has more abx available than any other countries, it even has its own abx that NOONE else has, like pristinamycine which is a combo of 2 macrolides working synergestically, Bleu knows this one) I am thinking of switching the cycline, I am using doxy 200 mg at the moment with spiramycine (macrolide) and I am thinking of switching to minocycline 100 mg + a macrolide (maybe my French pristinamycine). I don't want to draw conclusions too fast but I have been on a kind of a Stratton/Wheldon protocol for 2 months now and I think I am doing quite well (for me that means being able to go shopping for food once a week, and spending only 90% of my time in bed). I am about to go on my second 5 day stint of tinidazole (unlike what Wheldon says to do, I go OFF my other abx to take the tinidazole). I am also taking 300 mg of artemisinin (Allergy Reseach), and after several of THEM headaches, I seem to be sailing along OK now after 3 weeks on artemisinin. My eyes are less sore, I can stay in front of the computer for a bit longer, hence this update. My latest blood tests showed an increase in RBCs, neutrophils, lymphocytes, platelets into normal ranges (I nearly always am below range in neutrophils, and quite low on the others, all near bottom of normal range) Nelly [infections] Re: Nelly- Part Deux Nelly- Looking over Stratton's patent materials, in his list of " Antichlamydial Therapy Directed Toward the Initial Stage of Chlamydia Infection, " the " cryptic " growth phase which occurs within the host cell, he lists: metronidazole (preferred), tinidazole, bamnidazole, benzinidazole, flunidazole, ipronidazole, misonidazole, moxnidazole, ronidazole, sulnidazole. Also he lists nitrofurans class meds: nitrofurantoin (preferred), nitrofurazone, nifurtimox and about 5 others. He then adds a third catagory for a " unique class of antichlamydial agents " which effect both the replicating and cryptic stationary phase (using his susceptibility tests in the patent) which include isoniazid (INH- preferred) niacin, nicotinic acid, pyrazinamide, ethionamide and aconiazide. (I have added 1000mg of niacinamide to my regime because of this-- seems to potentiate the abx a bit) Of the abx for the replicating phase he lists a bunch. Your spiramycine isn't on the list. Preferred are levofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, azithromycin, clarythromycin, minicycline and rifampin. Others are listed as well. Hope this helps, Jim
