Guest guest
Good luck, ! You'll do just fine! As for recovery, you should have no problem doing the kinds of things you mentioned during your second week. The anesthesia takes awhile to get out of your system, and that is what affects your energy levels. It's not that you'll have pain or discomfort as much as you'll just be a little " washed out " . Don't overdo, but certainly working at the computer or on crafts for a couple of hours at a time shouldn't be a problem. We'll be thinking of you - keep us posted. Guest guest
Good luck!! I will be thinking about you on monday. I hope your recovery and results are really good, because I'm soon to be doing the same. I've found that with any surgery I've had, the pain is soon gone, a couple of days at most, but the effects of the sedation last for about a week. Tired and cranky is me!! Stay in your pyjamas, it's a reminder to anyone around you that you are still not up to par, and they will be more considerate! I find when I get dressed, they all think I'm back to normal and ready for the usual running around involved with 3 teens! Janet
Guest guest
-- Best of luck on your surgery. For what it's worth, here's a description of how my recuperation went: 1. For the first 24 hours, I felt pretty lousy. Actually, I felt really lousy that first day, so when you wake up after your surgery, tell yourself: " This will improve soon! " 2. For the next couple of weeks after that, I felt better, but still sore. 3. But, three weeks after surgery, I was well enough to hop on a plane and go to a conference. Hope this helps, Vicki
Guest guest
Energy should not be too much of a problem, . 6 days after my surgery, I installed a new Ethernet card in my computer. Best of luck, my prayers will be with you. Alan Countdown to Monday..... Hi to all;OK, the countdown is on... Monday morning I have my surgery - I'm getting a video-assisted Thorascopic Myotomy. I'm getting nervous about surgery but I have a lot of faith in my doctor.I expect to be in the hospital for a few days, then recovering at home. I've seen a lot of posts about how sore some of you have been afterwards, so I'm ready for that. What about energy level? The second week, while I'm still recovering at home, can I expect to have the energy to do some light stuff, like work at the computer or sit at a table working on craft projects for a few hours, or should I just expect to be a couch potato, reading and watching TV? I'll be sure to mention, to my doctor, our interest in providing data for a survey and ask him if he knows any researchers who would be interested in what we have to offer. And of course you'll get a follow-up post after I'm home from the surgery....Thanks for listening...

Guest guest
Alan, Carol, Elena and others... Thanks for all your good wishes and prayers. I just found out that my doctors office never got the surgery approved with the insurance company - like I need the extra stress!!! The insurance company is calling them direct and said the pre-approval should not be a problem - whew! Elena - I'm definately planning on taking it easy! I have about 10 books and 5 magazines and some knitting just waiting for me. My fiance works from a home office and will be waiting on me at the ring of a bell. I was hoping I'd be up to working on a few things in preparations for my April wedding, like hot-gluing little flowers on the seating cards, or working on the seating chart. That was my reasoning for wondering if I'd have much energy the second week. I'm cleared for 2 weeks recovery off work, but will have my laptop to check in and answer critical e-mail only if I'm up to it. My boss is fully supportive of taking a full recovery time. So now it's back to work to finish all the projects he wants done before I leave tomorrow! > - please plan on staying home for the week and RELAXING! Good luck! > Warmest regards, Elena Wagner
Guest guest
Hi Vicki; Thanks for the timeline on recovery! Right now I'm slated to hope on a plane about 3 and a half weeks after the surgery, to attend some meetings at the company headquarters and I was wondering how I'd feel with that. The only challenge will be sticking to a soft diet while traveling!
Guest guest
Thanks Elena; I promise I won't overdo it. The trip is a over 3 weeks after the surgery and I'm already planning to talk to the airline about pre- boarding and getting help with lifting my small, rolling carry-on into the overhead. My fiance suggested I even try to talk them into a first class upgrade!!! The meeting itself won't be too taxing - only half a day. I watched a laproscopic fundoplasty on The Learning Channel's Operation Show tonight! Kind of like what will be going on for me - it was interesting. Warm regards...
