Guest guest
I have a 38 month old who has received speech and developmental therapy for verbal dyspraxia since he was 18 months old. He has made great progress, especially in the last 6 months. My 20 month old, after 5 months of developmental and speech therapy has just been diagnosed with verbal dyspraxia. How common is it to have 2 children with the same disorder? bvburke@...
Guest guest
Hi, I have 2 children with Apraxia. I am not sure how common it is to have 2 children with this. I do have a daughter who is 14 and has no developmental delays. My 13 and 8 year old do have Apraxia and low muscle tone. Makes me wonder if it could be genetic. I just thought it might be comforting to know you are not alone and are not the only one who has 2 children with this kind of delay. Good luck with your children. Guest guest
Hello, I have 2 children who have both had developmental delays, my oldest, 8 (in second grade) was delayed in speech and auditory processing, attended regular preschool, and began to make real progress when she was about four. I waited an extra year to have another child because I wanted to devote myself entirely to her progress and therapies (early intervention and county - speech only). She is doing great!!! When I had my second child, I looked early on for signs of delay similar to my older daughter's. I finally had to admit those signs were there as early as about a year old. If someone had told me I would go through the same thing again, they could have knocked me over with a feather. My youngest (3.11) is currently in special ed. preschool 5 afternoons a week and is beginning to make real progress. Along with the speech and auditory processing delays, she has issues my older one never had (clumsiness, OT issues). Her ST doesn't believe she has any sort of apraxia, but probably a combination of many disorders. Hopefully, if she develops as my older daughter did, she will " grow out " of all of these abbreviations. We have an appointment with a ped. neurologist the day after her fourth birthday (next month). I am convinced that I could have three more children and the same thing would happen. It is probably genetic in our case.
