Hi and Happy Holidays to All-

We just received approval for the Medicaid Waiver - Home and Community Based

Supports and I am elated. We have been on a very rocky road. I am now needing a

PA a few mornings, possibly into the day. My daughter has an autism diagnosis,

a seizure disorder and recently diagnosed with an unknown autoimmune disease.

She is 18 and non-verbal.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best,

Where do you live? How much experience are you looking from the PSA? Have you

requested your service facilitator to locate workers for you?

Hi ,

You can post an ad at school, possibly one of the aides might be looking for

extra work. I have had very good luck finding students from local colleges and

junior colleges. Those studying to be therapists or special ed teachers are

particularly motivated and creative. Since they have demanding schedules I

always have two or three that are available about 6 hours a week. The downside

is that when they graduate and move on but a few have remained in contact.

Hi.

Thanks for the responses. We live in Elmwood Park, near Oak Park. I do

have 1-2 people from my daughter's school that have been wonderful, but

need to add more hours, thus looking for more people.

I know that our service facilitator may have people but they may not have

the hours I need and it costs more to use them.

Thanks.

There are also workers out there who need hours but can't find clients because

most Waiver recipients end up paying family members. You might want to contact

other service agencies near you to ask if they have any workers they would

recommend. Programs for lpns or other lower level care (not RNs) are also good

sources for workers.
