Portland OR Dyspraxia Support Group Meeting

Dear Portland Area Listmates,

Our next support group meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 21

at 6:30pm at the CDRC clinic (child development and rehab. center)

room 1125.

It is on the first floor and just to the left as you walk in the

front doors. The address of the clinic is 707 Gaines. It is very

close and on the same street as the Hearing and Speech Institute.

Please call 503-494-8095 for detailed directions. Make sure you get

directions to the OLD CDRC clinic and NOT to the clinics located in

Doernbecher Hospital. Kathy s of Multnomah Co. Developmental

Disabilities Services Division will give us a short (15 min)

presentation on services they provide. The focus will be on monies

that are available to pay for self directed " therapy " . These monies

are NOT income based and you can be very creative in the proposal you

make, i.e. horseback riding lessons, swimming, assistive technology

etc. She will talk about the qualification process. As I

understand it, dyspraxia, by itself, will not qualify a child but

there needs to be some other dev. disability with it. Examples would

be austism, developmental dealy, CP etc...As I also understand

children under 6 may not need a clear label or diagnosis

toqualify. We will also have time to either view some of the

Hammer video (if I can get video equipment ) or we will have a " book

review " of sorts. I will bring in several books and videos on

dyspraxia and related subjects and will encourage others to do the

same. We will then have an opportunity to browse through these

helpful materials. I will let you know as time gets closer if

we will watch the video or bring in books. Hope to see you all
