I did not mean to upset you, merely stating factual evidence regarding 'ABA' and hoping to help to marry the best possible treatment and therapies for our children. I have used DTT (both 'clinic' and 'workshop' models) under several consultants. I have taken much time in studying these therapies and others. I've concluded, for us anyway, that every child is entirely unique, and the importance of IEP's must never be under-estimated (a child may need several different therapies as well as some ABA) and I believe, keeping an open and flexible attitude, along with much observation and data-taking as possible (whether that be written/anecdotal) can only help. I suppose my point is, I really think therapy works best when it is the most natural and fun as it can possibly be. I dont believe therapy can be as useful as it may be if it is any way stressful for anyone involved in it. Technically speaking; my sons' receptive language and socialisation improved amazingly when we changed from DTT to NET, and incorporating some aspects of 'floor play' and 'incidental teaching' as well as teaching (especially 'receptive labelling' and 'receptive language') mainly we do this out in the community (Macs' love us!). I have not met with Dr.Carbone as yet, but hope to in spring and am looking forward to listening to his point of view. Best wishes, Liz lucy. Guest guest
Subject: Re: [ ] Just ABA- Lovass VS S/P A thread has been started comparing Lovaas vs. S/P. WE WILL NOT DO THAT ON THIS LIST. FACT: Dr. Lovaas has done justice for many families on this list and around the world. If it were not for his research and studies, many children would not be where they are today. Dr. Carbone has now set out to do justice and help children with autism too. Everyone is entitled to their " opinion " but this list-group was designed to discuss teaching technique, not argue who is right and who is wrong. This list is to discuss the " how to " teach using DTT, NET with emphasis on Skinners Analysis of Language. It was designed to help people who do not have consultants, but want to learn more. If people want to discuss what Lovaas did and did not do .... it will have to be done somewhere else. (I am sure 5 years down the road people will want to discuss what s/p and Carbone did not do either.) I am sorry if people do not agree with me.... If you would like to discuss it further... then write to me personally (or better yet, write to the person who you would like to disagree with). DO NOT START SLAMMING PEOPLE WITH YOUR OPINIONS ON THIS LIST. You can share your " personal experience " and ask for advice on how to improve it or share with others how things are working for you.... but we will NOT argue methodologies here. Thank you.
