Guest guest
Dear Kat, I asked Esther for you and she gave me the following tips. 1. Yes - lots of trials! 2. Easiest introduction to " wh " questions is through exp. tact " what is this? " - Esther suggest beginning with objects, prefered items etc and then moving to actions - if this is a strength. Use any strong tacts though! 3. Next, she'd intro " who " as again tact based and familiar people/animal easy. You could expand this to mastered occupations as well. Evantually, you could work like this.... EG: " who is this? " Doctor (name) What does a Doctor do? Helps when I am sick When I am sick I go to the .......... Esther suggests that time based " when " will need, time based tacts to be taught first. She'd start with simple morning, afternoon and nightime. Also, you may need to beef up the visuals for this and have visual schedules to be sure the kid has it. Begin with just the three tacts (or even just two!) and a preferred activity at those times. As for why, Esther says this often quite hard to learn functionally and not just by rote. You could start with obvious cause and effect with preferred activities. Say, " Why do we turn on the TV " " because I want to watch cartoons or why do I eat ....(item) Because I'm hungry We use it with only two because of the strong EO - They are eating/drinking. Hope this helps a little.
Guest guest
Dear List, I think maybe I wrote this wrong. What I'm looking for is MY SON asking ME questions. He can answer questions fine( though his general knowledge needs work). This issue is him asking ME informational questions. (where, why, etc.) The set up is obvious to me too- it is the administration of this in a program that has been a problem. In the ABLLS, this is under requests...i.e. requests for more knowledge. Thanks to and others who tried to help. I need your forgiveness in not being clear enough what I mean and wasting your time. much love, kat
