IT IS AN ASSESSMENT, CURRICULUM GUIDE AND SKILLS TRACKINGSYSTEM FOR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM OR OTHER DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. (it goes hand in hand with the Teaching Language to Children book that you have already purchased. You can purchase the book from FEAT-NT. It retails for $59.95 + $3.00 s/h). You may send check of money order to: FEAT-NT c/o Rhonda Miga, Treasurer 3910 Windview Drive Colleyville, TX 76034 The only difference with ordering it from FEAT-NT vs a retail store is that your purchase will be a tax deduction because it counts as a donation to FEAT-NT. I beleive that Different Roads to Learning also sells it. The publisher is: Behavior Analysts, Inc. Attn: Partington, Ph.D., 3329 Road, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523. Telephone: (925) 210-9374 (I am sure they take credit cards, which FEAT-NT is not set up to do.) > 1)Some good books on the Carbone methodolgy (and where to buy them) Dr. Carbone does not have any published books that I know of. He gives out the s/p language book at all his conferences (included in the registration fee). He has a workshops guide he uses during his workshops but makes many references to the s/p book.) From what I have seen, Dr. Carbone does not do much " reinventing the wheel " kind of things. He often makes reference to programs or publications that are already in existence. Basically if a parent or professional has a specific question, he will tell you what is already available on the market. (example: to teach sign language to children, there is a CD that shows each sign and evidently is easy to follow. Carol Sloan--- could you tell us the name of it, I do not remember.) He also would not refer to this as " Carbone methodology " . Mainly he refers to it as ABA with the support of Skinners Analysis of Language. (I think he will get a kick out of reading it though...<smile> ) > 2)Any Carbone videotapes? many parents have asked Dr. Carbone to produce a tape. I know he is thinking " how " to do this. What parents have told him they want is a tape that explains each step of the Skinners analysis and demonstrations of how to impliment the teaching (mands, tacts, intraverbals, transfers, etc.) We really need to make sure he knows the high demand there is for something of this nature... I will be happy to make sure he gets the information and requests for what you would like to see in a video tape... if anyone is interested in posting their wants to the list. > 3)How do I get in touch with Dr. Carbone for an eval by one of his > consultants. This is a hard one due to the extreme demand on Dr. Carbone (thus a need for a list like this to help us mud through all the information). I have a few suggestions. A. visit the Behavior Analysts, Inc. website (this is sundberg/partington's). They put on several workshops throughout the year. You would have to fly to California and attend but I understand the information is well worth it. Recommended are the sequence of the following two workshops for starters: Two day workshop " Solutions for Language Training " for parents, and then the four day " Teaching Children with Language Delays " for paraprofessionals. (they also have professional workshops, so if you would like to suggest your current consultants attend these workshops, it would not hurt... The key is getting more people aware, trained and that they understand the whole picture of ABA.) Workshops are limited to small numbers. You can find out more at: www.corteks.com/STARS B. Visit Dr. McGreevy's website for other upcoming conferences. I beleive he also talks about services on his website. www.behaviorchange.com Dr. McGreevy works closely with Dr. Carbone. C. Several of you have mentioned that you have consultants that are implimenting this type of teaching. Find out if they are taking more clients, get them to join this list and start sharing information with us. (I hope to get something regarding " what to look for in a consultant. " type thing to help us parents locate and hire quality professionals to work with our children.) > 4)Has anyone used this method on a child who is only 24 months old? > What was your experience? Early intervention is the key thing here. Hill (a parent in Texas) uses this type of teaching with her son. He was around 18 months I believe. She has not joined this list yet, but e-mail her. She will be happy to tell you about her experiences ( Hill ohyeah99@...) > 5)Are there any scientific papers on this technique; i.e. double blind > studies or long-term studies on the effectiveness of this technique for > the autistic population? someone asked the double blind study question at the Houston conference. Dr. Carbone said that most likely there will not be any... due to the need for early intervention... and lack of parents wanting to participate in the study... for fear of receiving the " placebo " for their child. As far as scientific papers, Please see the reference section of the Teaching Language book. (I will be happy scan this and put on list if anyone wants it.) Dr. Carbone also recommends that you subscribe to the Journal of Analysis of Verbal Behavior. (I do not know where to get this but will check around to find out.) The other recommendation that I would make would be to get a copy of Skinners (1957) analysis of verbal behavior. It can be purchased from and Noble. web address below... http://shop.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=2MCXR2L60Y & mscssid=0AMUUT4MMRS12NJD0017QJ1R0HDM73EB & srefer= & isbn=0874115914 Hope all of this is helpful.
