Re: prenatal dx ds...possible blockage esophageal tract

Hello.I have been a member of this group for a while buthave not posted until now. My son Max (DS) is 11months old - he is our only child although we do planon having more!I had a similar experience with Max. We had apre-natal diagnosis also and the reason why we had apre-natal diagnosis was b/c Max was found to haveduodenal stenosis (the connection between his stomachand small intestine was very small) in utero. We didnot have a triple screen but on our routine USsomething showed up with his heart, we were referredfor a level II US and although it turned out his heartwas fine the duodenal stenosis was detected. We then opted for an amniocentesis to confirm the diagnosis.Anyway, because of the duodenal stenosis the amnioticfluid did not pass through Max like it would in atypical baby and I was at risk for polyhydramnios(elevated level of amniotic fluid) and this places awoman at risk for pre-term labor b/c as it was put tome "the uterus can only hold so much". Throughout therest of my pregnancy I saw a perinatologist everymonth and an US was done to measure the level ofamniotic fluid - near the end of the pregnancy I wentmore frequently. Luckily, my levels were always atthe high end of normal and I never experiencedpre-term labor. After Max was born he was stabilized and on the secondday of life he underwent surgery to repair theduodenal stenosis. During the surgery the doc removedthe small connection b/w the stomach and smallintestine and anastamosed the two parts so there wasa normal connection. Max was in the NICU for 2 weeksand he did very well throughout his hospital stay. After discharge he was feeding like a typical baby (Hewas breastfed) and we have not had any problems. Hedid have some mild reflux but that is now no longer anissue. He is seen by a peds GI Q 3-6 months now. It sounds like your little girl's problem is a littlehigher in the GI tract but I think they may treat muchin the same way they did Max's. Hope this helps and hang in there! If you have anyfurther questions I would be happy to answer them asbest I can. Holly MatheMom to Max 11 months--- Hope <rhsikesctc (DOT) net> wrote:> From my local group.
